OLD/NEW BUSINESS
Monson Cemetery Commission Request for Assistance~ Due to the uncertainly of the duration Cemetery Superintendent Paul Lovell will be out on sick leave, the Monson Cemetery Commission has requested the use of Jan-Michael DeMaio since he has previously worked in the Cemetery Department and is very familiar with locating the graves and the burial procedures as one employee is not able to handle a full interment burial alone.
The Commission discussed how the department has always cooperated with one another and have never hesitated in offering mutual assistance when our individual duties allowed which we would definitely like to continue. Unfortunately, our Superintendent will also be out of work for an extended period of time which intensifies our usual problem of too much work and not enough people to do it. Therefore the Commission would like to be straightforward and state that Jan will only be loaned if our workload will allow it, subject to the discretion of our Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent. In the event Jan is required by the Cemetery Department his time away from the Water & Sewer Department will be paid for by the Cemetery Commission. However, considering the present situation both our
departments are experiencing, the Commission strongly suggests that arrangements be made to have a private contractor or person stand by in the case we cannot spare Jan. A letter to the Monson Cemetery Commission to this effect was prepared and signed by the Water & Sewer Commissioners.
Palmer Road Water Main Break ~ A severe water main break at 142 Palmer Road occurred on the evening of Thursday December 15th into the morning of December 16th. Cooperation and prompt assistance was received from Mass DOT, who provided signs and called DIGSafe, Baystate Gas, Palmer Water, Monson Highway, Fire and Police and Asphalt Paving Maintenance who provided gravel that evening and later pavement repairs. Tom described the how Craig was injured while cutting a length of 16” pipe. The saw kicked back striking him in the face knocking his safety glasses off. It was apparent he was hurt by the cut on his cheekbone and the direction of his eye. Luckily an EMT from the Monson Fire Department was on site, and was able to assess the situation and call for the
ambulance for him to be transported. The lending of professional personnel, equipment and materials allowed Tom and Jan to proceed with the repairs without costly delays. At this point it is unknown the duration Craig will be out.
ADJOURN: A motion was made by Doug to adjourn at 7:30p.m. Motion seconded by Steve. Motion passed unanimously.
