Minutes of August 13, 2013 Meeting

The minutes of the July 9, 2013 meeting were reviewed and, after motion duly made by Ms. Brahen and seconded by Mr. Dominick, were approved,
Update on Farmers’ Market
Ms. Beaudoin reviewed the details of the Japanese maple donation that was received and confirmed that trees would be available for the August 15, 2013 Farmers’ Market. Ms. Prior and Ms. Brahen agreed to work the market, with Ms. Duthie and Ms. Beaudoin to join later in the day.
Update on Veterans’ Field
Ms. Beaudoin reviewed the bids that had been received from Brad Medeiros, S&K Landscaping and B&B Landscaping. After discussion by the Committee, it was unanimously voted to award the bid to Brad Medeiros. Ms. Beaudoin and Ms. Duthie agreed to work on getting the work completed this fall. Ms. Beaudoin also agreed to contact the other contractors to advise them of the Committee’s decision. Ms. Duthie also advised the Committee that the Park Road project had been put on.
Discussion of the Fall Plantings
Ms. Duthie outlined the various orders that had been placed for the projected fall plantings. She advised the Committee that Crabapples would not be available until October. The Committee will hold another public planting date to accommodate those clients that have ordered crabapples.
Ms. Beaudoin stated that several individuals had contacted her as to acquiring additional private trees. The Committee then discussed the 10 tree limit for private homeowners and it was unanimously agreed that if homeowners were willing to pay the total cost of the trees, the Committee would continue to get delivery. Ms. Duthie agreed to contact other clients that had reached the 10-tree limit to determine if they would like to order more trees.
Ms. Beaudoin stated that the Monson Garden Club was very interested in participating in the plantings that are anticipated at the new town office site. The Committee agreed to work with the Garden Club as we approach the planting phase to be sure to include them in the process.
Ms. Beadoin stated that there were no bill schedules to approve. Ms. Brahen reviewed a request from Ms. Emma Ladd Shepherd regarding publicity and indicated that she and Ms. Beaudoin had reviewed a press release that would appear in local media outlets regarding the September 14, 2013 planting.
After motion duly made and seconded, the meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
