Discussion of proposed planting at Veterans Field.
Valerie has spoken with Brad Medeiros who is willing to bid on the job as well as doing the watering of the trees once planted. There is no water available at Veterans field at this time. The committee has distributed bid specs to Brad, B&B Landscaping, S&K Landscaping, and Henry’s Trees. We will discuss the bids and vote on proposals at the next meeting. Planting of the field will take place in two or three stages. This will be the first planting and consist of approximately 12 trees.
Fall Planting: Committee decides to cap the planting to 50 trees. There will need to be two plantings, one in September, then one in October to accommodate the nursery. Crabapples will not be available until October, when they can be dug. The 50 trees will be limited to the September 14th planting.
Farmer’s Market: Japanese maples will be donated by Nelson Oakes who wants to help the community recover from the tornado. The Committee will be at the farmer’s market on July 25th and will accept donations for the trees. Valerie will contact Mr. Oakes to see if he can drop them off for us.
Tree Replacement Policy. Discussion of replacing trees that die. Leslie points out we need to do a better job of planting the trees at a correct depth, several trees have died because they were too deep. Committee decides since it is so few, we will continue to ask the nursery to replace trees that die.
Elm tree to be planted in front of the Verizon building on July 31/ Aug 1 by Leslie and her crew.
Motion to adjourn.
