Minutes of February 14, 2012 Meeting
Members In attendance: Richard Anable, Nicholas Beaudoin, Valarie Beaudoin, Leona Brahen, Evan Brassard, Bill Dominick, Leslie Duthie, Martha Prybylo and Audra Staples
Also in Attendance: Girl Scout Troop 20410, Troop Leader Faith Esposito
The minutes of the January 10, 2012 meeting were reviewed and, after motion duly made by Ms. Duthie and seconded by Ms. Prybylo, were approved,
Girl Scout Troop 20410
Ms. Duthie introduced the Girl Scout Troop and explained that they would be observing our meeting as they chosen our committee to work with to obtain their bronze badge. This badge is for government participation. The Troop indicated that for their project they would like to work with the Committee to plant trees. It was decided that a planting location would be discussed at the next meeting of the Committee.
Allocation of Monson Savings Bank Contribution
Ms. Duthie reported that the Replanting Monson Committee had been one of the top 10 community projects to receive a $750.00 contribution. Discussion ensued as to the best use of this money. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously
VOTED: That the $750.00 contribution from Monson Savings Bank would be allocated to the purchase of private trees.
Dig Safe Liaison
Ms. Staples reported that Ms. Brahen had volunteered to work as the Dig Safe liaison for the Committee for all future plantings. Upon motion made by Mr. Brassard and seconded by Mr. Anable, the appointment of Leona Brahen as the Committee’s Dig Safe liaison was unanimously approved. Ms. Beaudoin mentioned that she had experience with Dig Safe and would be willing to help wherever needed.
Discussion of March 1, 2012 Educational Seminar
The Committee discussed the various flyers that would be distributed to various area businesses to advertise the event. The structure of the session was then discussed. It was decided that a brief overview of the Committee and an update on current activities to date would be presented by Ms. Staples. The Committee would break into discussions groups with two members of the Committee on each group. Ms. Staples and Ms. Duthie agreed to put together talking points for the session so that a consistent message would be conveyed. It was also decided that a list of questions would be put together to gather input on the type of plantings that were preferred. Ms. Duthie agreed to a binder put together for each group so that an example of the various trees available for planting could be used as a
guide. Mr. Dominick agreed to solicit area businesses for contributions of food and beverages for the session.
Discussion of the Arbor Day Event
It was decided by the Committee that the Saturday night gala event would be postponed until later in the year due to the heavy schedule already planned for the Arbor Day weekend. The Committee then discussed breaking into subcommittees to enable planning for the various events on Arbor Day Weekend to continue between meetings. The following subcommittees were formed:
High School Event – Valarie, Nicholas and Leslie
Friday Night Event – Valarie and Audra
Saturday Event – Leona, Martha, Audra and Leslie
Sunday Event – Evan, Leslie and Audra
Various activities were then discussed for consideration by the Subcommittees. It was agreed that all subcommittees would report back to the Committee at the March 13, 2012 meeting.
Correspondence was reviewed. It was decided that a letter received from the Historical Society would be tabled for discussion at the next meeting.
Mr. Brassard requested that a database be developed to track possible site visits for future planting areas. It was agreed that a database would be created and Ms. Brahen was asked to assist in this effort.
