“REPLANTING MONSON” TREE COMMITTEE
Minutes of January 10, 2012
Members In attendance: Richard Anable, Nicholas Beaudoin, Valarie Beaudoin, Leona Brahen, Evan Brassard, Bill Dominick, Leslie Duthie, Martha Prybylo, Audra Staples and Don Vacon
The minutes of the December 15, 2011 meeting were reviewed and, after motion duly made by Ms. Prybylo and seconded by Mr. Brassard, were approved,
Review and Approve Strategic Plan
Mr. Brassard began with a recap of the last meeting and reviewed his approach to the strategic plan. He then solicited comments from the Committee. Ms. Prybylo then presented her attempt at the strategic plan. The Committee spent several minutes reviewing the plan presented by Ms. Prybylo and agreed to use it as the basis for discussion. After continued discussion and several revisions, Mr. Vacon made a motion to accept the strategic plan as revised. This motion was seconded by Ms. Beaudoin and unanimously approved by the Committee.
Review of Fundraising Package
Ms. Staples reviewed the fundraising package that had been distributed to each Committee member. Discussion ensued regarding the individual and corporate sponsorship levels. Various incentives for contributing were also discussed. Discussion then turned to various means of recognizing donors. A suggestion was made to include a flyer in one of the town mailings and this was generally thought to be a good idea. It was decided that the changes discussed at the meeting would be compiled and a final package would be approved at the next meeting of the Committee.
Discussion of Educational Programs
Ms. Staples reiterated that the high school had been secured for each of the three educational sessions. A new date of March 28, 2012 was selected for the last session. Ms. Duthie reviewed the program that she would be presenting and several questions were raised by the Committee. She reiterated the goals of the various sessions: (1) emphasize species; (2) visioning for the town; and (3) planting, care and maintenance. Monson will be the focus but the general public is welcome to attend all sessions. The Amherst nursery list was distributed. The logistics of the private tree campaign were discussed.
Upon motion duly made by Mr. Brassard and seconded by Mr. Anable, It was unanimously
VOTED: To spend $5,000 from the private tree fund to purchase various assortments of trees for private homeowners from Amherst and other nurseries.
Due to the length of the meeting, it was unanimously voted to table the discussion of the Arbor Day event for the next meeting to be held on February 14, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.
After motion duly made and seconded, the meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
