“REPLANTING MONSON” TREE COMMITTEE
Minutes of December 15, 2011
Members In attendance: Valarie Beaudoin, Leona Brahen, Evan Brassard, Bill Dominick, Leslie Duthie, Martha Prybylo and Audra Staples
Absent: Richard Anable, Nicholas Beaudoin, Kathy Dreyer, Michael Roescher and Don Vacon
The minutes of the November 29, 2011 meeting were reviewed and, after motion duly made by Ms. Duthie and seconded by Ms. Prybylo, were approved,
Approve Mission Statement, Vision and Objectives
Ms. Staples began the meeting with some background from the last meeting. She also provided a report on the update that was provided to the Town Selectmen at their recent meeting. A general discussion was then held on the objectives of the Committee. It was decided that all the objectives that were provided in the draft document should be adopted. Ms. Staples then read the entire document for the Committee. After motion duly made by Ms. Duthie and seconded by Mr. Brassard, the mission statement, vision and objectives were unanimously approved.
Mr. Brassard gave a brief presentation on the strategic plan. It was decided that Mr. Brassard would draft a document for Committee review at the next meeting.
Review of Fundraising Package
Ms. Staples then opened the discussion of the fundraising package. After a lengthy review, it was decided that a new draft would be provided to Committee members for the next meeting. Mr. Brassard and Ms. Prybolo agreed to work together on the monetary donation piece of the package.
Educational Programs
Ms. Staples reported that she had applied for space at the high school to accommodate the various sessions. Ms. Duthie reported that the proposed April educational session date would need to be revised due to scheduling conflicts for the DCR. A general discussion then ensued regarding various aspects of each of the sessions. It was decided that we would focus on the educational sessions at the next meeting.
Discussion then turned to providing an additional educational program on Saturday, April 28, 2012 for homeowners who are unable to make the April educational session. It was reiterated that an educational session must be attended before any tree delivery could occur.
Arbor Day Planning
Ms. Staples began the discussion with an overview of comments received at the last meeting. She outlined her conversation with the Monson Free Library regarding the movie presentation of the Lorax. Ms. Duthie and Ms. Beaudoin offered to do further research on the movie licensing issue. The Committee decided that the Arbor Day Event planning should be a priority at the next several meetings.
Ms. Staples then announced that the Committee would be moving to monthly meetings. Committee members were polled on availability and it was decided that the Committee would meet on the second Tuesday of each month at the community meeting room at 29 Thompson Street.
After motion duly made and seconded, the meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
