Parks and Rec Commission Minutes 4/22/13
Minutes of the Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting
Monday, April 22, 2013

Present:  Steve O’Shea (Chairman), Steve Slozak, Michael Arbour

Also Present:  Tim Pascale, Director/Program Coordinator, Jeannie Guertin, Secretary/Clerk;

Steve O’Shea called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.

The Town of Monson Pool Use Agreement was discussed.   Tim commented on repairs to the pool.  Nationwide Aquatic Consulting (NAC) built the pool, and Tim wants to bring them in and evaluate the pool and make a list of repairs that need to be done.  There is $3,000 in the proposed budget for repairs.  Tim can transfer money from the revolving fund into the pool budget.  At the May town meeting, there is an article on the warrant requesting the transfer of money “from available funds to the Parks and Recreation Pool Salary and Expense Account.”

Steve Slozak made a motion to approve the February minutes.   Mike Arbour seconded; all in favor and the motion passed.

There is still an outstanding balance of $765 in basketball registration fees.  A letter will go out to each parent with an outstanding balance letting them know there cannot be participation in any other Parks and Rec program until the balance can be paid.  The letters will be sent certified mail.

Paul Mahoney is directing the Instructional Baseball program.  There is a meeting for all baseball and softball coaches on Thursday, April 25.  Craig Szado is running the meeting and Paul will be invited to attend.  At that meeting, uniforms will be handed out to the coaches.

The boy scouts want to do work on the trails up to Mount Ella.  Tom Brown is in charge of this project and needs to get approval.

Hastie Fence is coming Wednesday, April 24, to give prices to use the existing fence to place at the trail head at Flynt Park.  They will also give a price for a gate at the entrance to Cushman Field.  More people are using Cushman Field now that there is an area designated for lacrosse practices.

Rocky Mountain Wood and Scott Gerrish want to get done with the work at Upper Rogers by mid-May.  Once that work is complete, the drainage work can be completed.

Tim is working with the YMCA on a program “Y without walls”.    This is intended for teen programs but space is needed in order to facilitate this.

The new mowers are here, and the new pick-up truck is expected to be here around the middle of May.    There’s been no mowing yet, but Constantino Field will get mowed this week.  One of the mowers has the dethatcher installed.  One of the mowers’ batteries was dead so the company had to come out to fix it.  The new mowers will be stored inside the green trailer.

Jeannie drafted a letter regarding the Parks and Rec’s field permit/field usage policy.   The Commission approved the letter and it will be sent by certified mail to anyone that Tim deems should receive it.

Lacrosse officials have been scheduled for all home games.

The two 12/14 Tri Town teams have been split, and coaches are in place for both teams.  Uniforms for one of the teams had to be ordered.

The next meeting date is Tuesday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m.

Steve Slozak made a motion to close the meeting at 7:40 p.m. Mike Arbour seconded; all in favor and the motion passed.

Respectfully submitted,

Jeannie Guertin
Secretary/Clerk
