MONSON FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES                                                                                                                   SEPTEMBER 12, 2011

The meeting was convened at 7:00pm.

MEETINGS ATTENDED BY MEMBERS:

OLD BUSINESS / NEW BUSINESS:
Ms. Mahar gave and update regarding the Tornado Expenditures.  
  • $1.5 million paid in bills
  • Borrowed $700,000 in mid-July
  • Did some filing for FEMA money
  • Sorting through debris tickets for the last three weeks
  • Expecting to receive another AshBritt and O’Brien bill for August
  • As of 9/6/2011 the town is responsible for $1,478,830.19.  It was asked how the town plans to pay for this shortfall.  MEMA money is coming through in a supplemental budget-the legislature is very supportive.
It was encouraged to contact legislature and voice your concerns and encourage them to cover the 25% that FEMA does not.
Ms. O’Sullivan made a motion to have the Finance Committee send a letter to Senator Brewer supporting the supplemental budget; it was SECONDED and so voted.
Mr. Pennington will draft letter.

Ms. Neggers was asked if there were any grants available.  She said they are in the process of apply for what is available, totaling $125,000.

Ms. Neggers mentioned that on Wednesday at 6:30pm at Hillside school there will be a meeting to get feedback from the town’s people on the visions of rebuilding the devastated areas.  She encouraged people to please come and provide feedback.



Ms. Neggers was asked about the status of the Town Building, if it has been condemned.  She said the Board of Selectmen will be discussing it at their meeting on Tuesday night.

Finance Committee members voted for this year’s Chairperson and Vice Chairperson.
Mr. Fimognari nominated Mr. Pennington for Chairperson
Mr. Margerison SECONDED the nomination
All voted yes to have Mr. Pennington as Chairperson for the Finance Committee.

Mr. Brayton nominated Mr. Finnegan for Vice Chairperson
It was SECONDED
All voted yes to have Mr. Finnegan as Vice Chairperson for the Finance Committee.

Special Town Meeting will be sometime in November.

The next scheduled meeting of the Finance Committee is:
Monday, October 17, 2011 at 7:00pm
Monday, November 4, 2011 at 7:00pm

The meeting was adjourned at 7:33pm
