MONSON FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES JANUARY 24, 2011
Present: Jim Pennington, Maureen O’Sullivan, Peter Fimognari, Bob Finnegan, Bob Margerison, Gerry Brayton, Brenda Payette (Administrative Assistant), Gretchen Neggers (Town Administrator)
Absent: William Dominguez, Christine Edwards
The meeting was convened at 6:45pm
CORRESPONDENCE:
- 2010 Finance Committee Handbook CD. Ms. Payette handed out one to each FinCom member.
MEETINGS ATTENDED BY MEMBERS:
- Mr. Finnegan attended the Long Range Financial Project Capital Planning Meeting. Ms. Neggers also attended. Some overview of the meeting was talks about town vehicles, town buildings. Ms. Neggers has asked all departments to update their capital needs. She feels within the next 2 to 3 years some of the large debt will be rolling off.
OLD BUSINESS / NEW BUSINESS:
Budget discussions:
- Mr. Pennington asked Ms. Neggers if there have been talks about possibly combining some job duties. Ms. Neggers said to Mr. Pennington that those discussions should be coming from Finance Committee.
- Mr. Pennington asked Ms. Neggers if Town employees are eligible for step raises in a year when the town has no money. Ms. Neggers said the Town employees have gone with cuts and zero increases. Very difficult to retain quality employees and it is not good for the town.
- Mr. Pennington asked what other towns are doing in this difficult budget time. Ms. Neggers said that other towns might not rely so heavily on the town aid and some are making cuts.
- Ms. Payette will send an email to request the School Transportation Budget when it is available. Important budget piece for FinCom to have and review.
- Ms. Neggers said she will know after February 1, 2011
- Firm Health Care Rates
- Governor’s GIC position.

Continue to review department budgets received.
