Monson Cemetery Commission
Thursday, May 3, 2012
The monthly meeting of the Cemetery Commission opened at 6:00pm in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. Commissioners present were: Jim Duggan, Jim Metzger. No minutes from the previous meeting had been prepared and therefore were not presented for approval.
OLD BUSINESS:
No old business was discussed at this time.
.
NEW BUSINESS:
We discussed the two large flag poles one located at Hillside on Main Street and the other at Hillcrest Cemeteries. Jim Duggan investigated lighting both flag poles to follow flag etiquette. Jim Metzger said he would visit the store located in Chicopee and inquire about the lighting system that was presented and get back to the Commission.
Jim Duggan also discovered while researching things that the perpetual care fund has not been having any money put into the principal account so the interest could grow. After meeting with Debi Mahar and finding that there is no cap on the principal and that she couldn’t remember the last time money was put in there, and checking the law, we discovered it is up to the Commission to decide the amount. After discussion and a recommendation, the Commission voted in favor to have $25.00 from the sale of the lots is put into perpetual care from now on and that Debi would put a line on the turnover to reflect the same. A letter would be sent to Debi as per request and copied Gaylin.
Also discussed was the proposed budget that would be presented at Town Meeting and that the amount had changed due to the fact that they changed the Superintendents salary without consulting the Commission. We will see what transpires at Town Meeting on the budget and work with what we get.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:10pm
Next meeting is Thursday June 7, 2012, at 6pm.
Respectfully Submitted
James Duggan, Chairman/Clerk
