Monson Cemetery Commission
Thursday, September 1, 2011
The monthly meeting of the Cemetery Commission opened at 6:10pm in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. Commissioners present were: Jim Duggan, George Courtemanche. Also present was Paul Lovell, Superintendent. There were no minutes ready at this meeting for approval.
OLD BUSINESS:
We have in the past discussed the fees we charge for our services. Our fees have not increased in years while our expenses have increased. It was brought up again tonight with a proposal of increasing fees beginning with January 1, 2012 and having an increase again in January of 2013 and January 2014. The fee increase will be $25.00 this January and the next two years (2013 & 2014). These are minimal increases as we wanted to keep things affordable for the families that would be affected. Please see chart for exact amounts on specific services. A letter will be sent out to the Funeral Directors in the area.
NEW BUSINESS:
Paul informed us that the truck had failed inspection, and had work done on it so it would pass inspection. Again we keep putting money into an old tired truck.
There was some damage at the different Cemeteries after tropical storm Irene came through, one large branch at Hillside came down and has been removed.
Jim Finnegan fixed the stone wall on Main Street cemetery next to Nothe’s gas station, this bill will be submitted to FEMA.
North Main Street fences are completed and look good.
Paul discussed the issue with people walking pets (dogs) in the cemeteries and not cleaning up after them. We need to put up or correct our signage that states clearly that pets are not allowed in the cemeteries along with other rules guideline we have. We need new signage at Hillside and Hillcrest Cemeteries as they are the more frequented ones. We need to look into what we need to post and how much a couple of signs would cost.
.
Commissioners signed bills schedule and lot sale forms.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:25pm
Next meeting is Thursday, October 6, 2011, at 6pm.
Respectfully Submitted
James Duggan, Chairman/Clerk
