Monson Cemetery Commission
Thursday, January 7, 2010
The monthly meeting of the Cemetery Commission opened at 6:10pm in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. Commissioners present were: Jim Duggan, Al Wilcox, and Chairman Shawn Connery. Also present was Paul Lovell, Superintendent. Town Administrator Gretchen Neggers was also present.
Minutes of the December 3, 2009 meeting were read and approved as presented.
OLD BUSINESS:
Dave Beaudouin looked at the outside lights and said the motion light was a cheap one purchased at a Home Depot or similar store and should be replaced and he said the other one on the east side of the building we should try to replace the bulb first and if not then replace the fixture.
The Finance Committee would like to see all budgets with a 10% decrease over current budget figures, for the next fiscal requests. We’re not sure we can cut anymore from our current figures as we have already been hit extremely hard.
NEW BUSINESS:
Very lengthy discussion occurred regarding the creation in Town of a maintenance department which would encompass the Parks, Cemeteries and school grounds. Gretchen discussed the rationale behind it and what some of the preliminary discussions have been so far. She had stressed that we are early in the discussion stages and that many things would have to fall into place for this or anything remotely like this were to occur. She said that Tim Pascale the Parks & Recreation Director has been working on a proposal for this concept. She, Paul, Debbie Mahar and Timmy will be meeting to discuss and work on this further. We should get some type of report on the progress soon. A presentation is being scheduled for a Selectmen’s meeting sometime in the future.
We will be notified of this before it happens so we can attend.
We also have discussed, briefly about using some perpetual care money to possibly get a mapping system for at least a couple of our more used cemeteries. Information will be sought and we will research this further.
Surveys to towns is still on agenda, but have waited until we see if we need to solicit more/different information from other communities that we originally had hoped to obtain. With budgets and now possible consolidation of maintenance and a mapping system, these are other items we may seek information on.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:05pm
Next meeting is Thursday February 4, 2010 at 6pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
James Duggan, Clerk
