Meeting of 2009-10/01
Monson Cemetery Commission
Thursday, October 1, 2009

The monthly meeting of the Cemetery Commission opened at 6:15pm in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. Commissioners present were: Al Wilcox, Jim Duggan; Shawn Connery. Also present was Paul Lovell, Superintendent.
Minutes of the September 3, 2009 meeting were read and approved as presented.

OLD BUSINESS:
The pillar was repaired by Jim Finnegan at a reduced rate.  It looks like new and should help preserve it for some time.
Discussed the signage project. Wording for the large signs as well as the smaller ones for each cemetery was approved as presented. Paul will get prices on creating and installing them. We want something (material wise) that will last a long time and are low to no maintenance.
Repairs on the truck continued to get the truck ready for winter and plowing. Safety items added were rear tires shocks and fixed a leak in the transmission, which should be it for the time being. Age and condition of truck is a constant concern for us.
One of the riding mowers needed to be sent out for repair; it has since come back and seems to be back to normal.
Paul received a price on a new door for the office, to replace the one there as it is rotted and not weather resistant. Brian Mushenko gave a price of $559.00 for the door, materials and labor to install the door. Paul did not get prices on insulation for the building as of yet. We felt the door is the priority for now and we should move forward on this to seal up the office space making it more energy efficient.

NEW BUSINESS:
We had a tree fall on a fence at our Butler Road Cemetery – damaged a very old split rail fence. The tree does not belong to the town nor is it on Town property. The owner, Mrs. Emery notified Paul and it was cut up, brush move to side of road where Hub’s crew came and chipped it up, and the larger pieces of the tree were deposited on the owner’s property for disposal. The fence was so old that it is not worth replacing.
Budget items were discussed along with the current fiscal situations that have been plaguing the town. This is an on going process and discussion.

        Meeting was adjourned at 7:18pm

Next meeting is Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 6pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

James Duggan, Clerk
