Meeting of 2006-05/05
MONSON CEMETERY COMMISSION
FRIDAY, MAY 5, 2006

The regular meeting of the Monson Cemetery Commissioners convened at 10:00 a.m. in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. In attendance were Albert T. Wilcox, Robert E. Pease, Paul B. Lovell and Gaylin G. Bingle. David F. Martin III was not present.

Mr. Pease made a motion to accept the meeting minutes of April 7, 2006. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.

OLD BUSINESS:

1.      Transmission in Truck – Paul said the transmission in the dump truck is still giving him problems and he explained he can’t tie the truck up right now and will wait until after Memorial Day to bring it back in. The repair shop told Paul they think the seal is not properly seated and if he warms up the truck in the mornings prior to use it should be okay. The transmission will have to be taken out again to repair this problem and will require the truck being there for two days.

2.      Fence at Bennett Road Cemetery – Paul said nothing has been done yet regarding the replacement of the fence at Bennett Road Cemetery. There are a couple of trees at Bennett Road Cemetery that should be taken down prior to replacing the fence. Paul said funds for tree removal were put into the budget and he did receive some of the money he put in for, but there are also trees in Hillside Cemetery that need to be removed as well, and Paul noted Hillside is the more active of the two cemeteries. He didn’t feel there was enough money to remove all the trees in both cemeteries that need to come down.

3.      Roof on Building at Hillcrest – Mr. Pease said he would get in touch with Brian Mushenko. Paul asked Mr. Pease to hold off until after July 1st, when we will be working with our new budget.

NEW BUSINESS:

1.      Full-time Laborer Position – Mr. Pease modified the job description and Gaylin will type it up. Paul said the funds received in the new budget for the new full-time laborer would fund a Step 2 instead of the Step 3 the department had hoped for.

2.      Transfer of Funds – Paul put in for a transfer of $2,000.00 from the Salary Account to go into the Expense Account. These are unused funds due to the resignation of the Assistant Superintendent at the beginning of the fiscal year and will be used to purchase one or two new gas trimmers depending on the cost and budget.

3.      Seasonal Help – Paul said the two seasonal employees, Donald and Chris are working every morning for a total of 25 hours a week. Both seasonal employees will work 40 hours per week for the two weeks prior to Memorial Day.

4.      Flag at Hillcrest – Mr. Wilcox suggest having a flag at Hillcrest Cemetery. Paul explained there is a flagpole installed at the entrance to the cemetery and the flag is flown on special occasions, such as burials for veterans and certain holidays.

5.      Fiscal ’07 Budget – Paul said he requested $12,900.00 in the new Fiscal Year ’07 budget to cover the cost of a new riding lawnmower, tree removal and blacktop. The new budget allocated only $9,000.00 for these items.

Mr. Wilcox made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:05 a.m. Mr. Pease seconded the motion.

Respectfully Submitted,

Gaylin Bingle
