Meeting of 2006-04/07
MONSON CEMETERY COMMISSION
FRIDAY, APRIL 7, 2006

The regular meeting of the Monson Cemetery Commissioners convened at 10:00 a.m. in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. In attendance were Albert T. Wilcox, Robert E. Pease, David F. Martin III, Paul B. Lovell and Gaylin G. Bingle.

Mr. Pease and Mr. Wilcox welcomed Mr. Martin to the Commission.

Mr. Pease made a motion to reorganize the Commission as follows:
      Al Wilcox – Chairman
      Bob Pease – Vice Chairman
      Dave Martin – Member
Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.

The Recording Secretary read the meeting minutes of March 3, 2006 into the record. Mr. Pease made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.

OLD BUSINESS:

   1.  Roof on Building at Hillcrest – The Commissioners agreed unanimously to have
         Brian Mushenko install angle iron on the roof of the building at Hillcrest in order to
         stop the snow from sliding off the roof during the winter months. Paul said he
         would call Mr. Mushenko to tell him he was awarded the job and to set up a time
         for him to do it.

   2. Transmission on Truck – Paul said it cost $2,100.00 to have the transmission in the     
         truck repaired, an oil cooler was put on at the same time.

3.      Monument Restoration – Mr. Wilcox and Mr. Pease agreed to have Mr. Martin,   
      who volunteered, inquire about grants pertaining to monument restoration work.  
      Mr. Pease said he feels the Historical Society should deal with the Commissioners
      directly if grants are available through them.

4.      Fence – Paul said the damaged section of fence at Stafford Road Cemetery has been repaired. Paul hasn’t had the time yet to get prices on chain link fence for Bennett Road, but did say 101’ including the 8’ gate would be needed. Paul said he will try to get a split gate entrance instead of the single gate that is there now.

     5. Finance Committee Meeting – Paul said there is another meeting with the Finance
          Committee on Monday, April 10th at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Wilcox and Mr. Pease said they
          will attend this meeting and Mr. Martin said he would try, as he already had
          commitments for that night. Paul said the Finance Committee questioned the        
          figures for black top and tree  work. Paul explained this account also has money in     
          it for Pete Lloyd to open the graves, and added the road between the building and
          the cemetery that crumbled was unforeseen, but the road at the top of Hillside does
          need replacing. Mr. Pease agreed to request the funds that are needed. Mr. Martin  
          said he would see if Josh Messina could give a quote on blacktop. The  
         Commissioners also suggested possibly getting a quote from Billy Cadieux.


NEW BUSINESS:

1.      New Employee – Mr. Pease made a motion to start a new full-time employee as a W3 Step 1 with the title of Assistant Superintendent. Mr. Wilcox and Mr. Martin seconded the motion.

     2.  Seasonal Help Hours – Paul said he wants to increased the hours for the seasonal
            worker, Donald, from 19 hours to 25 hours for the spring, summer and fall, as he
            needs the help, and to increase it the hours to 40 hours for the two weeks prior to  
           Memorial Day. The Commissioners agreed for Paul to do what he felt was needed.

3.      Transfer of Money – Paul said Debi Mahar suggested to him that he transfer funds at the Annual Town meeting from the Salary Account to the Expense Account to help finish out the fiscal year financially.

Mr. Pease made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:10 a.m. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.
