Meeting of 2003-06/06
CEMETERY COMMISSIONERS MEETING OF JUNE 6, 2003

PRESENT:  Robert E. Pease, Julian E. Szarlan, Paul B. Lovell, John R. Nothe, and Gaylin Bingle. Herman E. Hasenjager did not attend this meeting.

Al Wilcox was also present for this meeting.

Mr. Pease called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the clerk and accepted with a motion by Mr. Szarlan and seconded by Mr. Pease.

OLD BUSINESS:

There wasn’t any old business at this time.

NEW BUSINESS:

Part-time Help -  Paul said the Cemetery Department will be level funded this year, according to the Finance Committee, and he would like to hire part time help. His problem is, downtown only wants part time help hired for 16 weeks at a time only, so the town will not be obligated to pay unemployment expenses. Paul stated someone is needed from April through Memorial Day, during the summer to with trimming and in the fall for leaves. Paul explained there aren’t enough people interested for a big turnover and he can’t find anyone willing to work just the 16 weeks. Also, whoever is hired must be over 18 years of age. John added it also takes too long to train people for just the 16 weeks. The Commissioners agreed the cemeteries look good and to let things go as they are. They understand the cemeteries will not look as nice as they have in the past as John and Paul will fall behind when the grass really begins to grow. Any seasonal help hired would only be allowed to work for only the16 weeks required by downtown.

2.     Monuments Vandalized – Paul  said monuments in Hillside have been vandalized
four or five times this year. The latest spree included knocking over the two
Japanese spheres. Paul said he didn’t have a chance to up-right them before
        Memorial Day.

Mr. Szarlan made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:40 a.m. Mr. Pease seconded the motion.

Respectfully Submitted,

Gaylin Bingle, Clerk
