August 5, 2015
Regular meeting of the Monson Board of Health was called to order at 5:31 p.m. by Beau Schneider, Vice Chair.
Members present were Beau Schneider, Vicki Alfano and Wayne Yee.
Lorri McCool, Health/Title V Inspector was also present. Chair person, Carrie Payne and Joanna Sorreiro were both on vacation.
Wayne Yee re-opened discussion of dates for Bulky Day 2016. His suggestion was in keeping confusion down and uniformity, we could schedule Bulky Day the last Sat. in April and the last Sat. in Sept. Beau Schneider advised, we might want to check with both Republic Services and the highway dept. to see, if that was agreeable to them. The trash schedules have to be ready for print in the near future, so these dates have to be agreed and voted on. Wayne Yee, Vicki Alfano and Beau Schneider agreed these dates might be feasible. Claire Forgues to check with both Republic Services and the highway dept. Discussion and vote tabled for the next meeting. Wayne Yee has the Bulky Day banner and will wait until after the next meeting to adjust the dates. Beau Schneider mentioned that Hampden Sign can make the adjustments for a minimal fee. The banner
for Hazardous Waste Day will need to be changed also with the upcoming date.
Lorri McCool advised the Board that she has an upcoming court date of Aug. 24th in regards to the property at 57 Stafford Rd. There have been trash complaints to the elderly property owner for clean-up and to date is not in compliance.
Lorri McCool is reviewing plans for a new Brew/Pub at 107-123 Main St. Unit 19. Mr. Jeffrey Walsh submitted paperwork for the new establishment along with a sketch of placement. He currently is to meet with the planning board on Aug. 18th. At this time, Lorri has many question relating to BOH regulations. Lorri will have a direct conversation with Mr. Walsh for clarification. All staff will have to be Serve-Safe and allergen certified.
Wayne Yee asked, how the celebration at Tree House Brewery was and Lorri advised that they were in full compliance.
A complaint has been filed with the BOH in regards to the countertops at the Polish Amer. Club. Lorri to do an inspection regarding the compliance of the countertops, food preparation and clean-up areas.
Beau Schneider made motion to accept the minutes from the July 8, 2015 meeting and seconded by Vicki Alfano. All in favor. The minutes of March 20, 2013 cannot be accepted at this time and were tabled. Lorri McCool retaining #6 from Jan. 8, 2014 meeting.
Wayne Yee presented the revised new BOH logo. All present Board members were in agreement on the new, softer colors, smaller caduceus, and the appropriate symbols. A final vote of acceptance was tabled for the Aug. 19th meeting. If approved, Wayne will have stationary printed for the Board and also decals prepared. With this being the 20 year anniversary for the Board, separating from the Selectman, this is an opportune time to initiate the new logo and making them available for the residents of Monson.
Vicki Alfano obtained the prescription for the purchase of the AED for 110 Main St. from Dr. David Doyle. Vicki suggested that the Board send a thank you to the Dr. for the script.
A copy of the tele-conference on heroin/opiate abuse is available in the office. Scott Malo was grateful that the Monson BOH wanted to be involved with any programs or outreach for the substance abuse.
The prepared beaver permit for Neiske Rd. was reviewed along with the pictures. Beau Schneider said that he was speaking with an abutter, James Patenaude about the existing problem. In years past, Mr. Patenaude had been a trapper prior to the new laws being passed. He currently has a beaver dam on his property. Included on this permit was the entry of follow-up from the trapper after the 10 day period. Claire Forgues sent a copy of this permit to the State agency. Further discussion tabled for the next meeting.
The Board was discussing ideas for the upcoming 20th anniversary. Along with making available our new BOH decals, thoughts on an ice cream social or a barbecue were mentioned. Doing this as a community event would not be feasible. Claire Forgues mentioned possibly holding a health fair at the senior center and combining it with the anniversary might be a nice outreach to the community. All members present thought this was a great idea and Wayne Yee and Vicki Alfano both added that they had contacts that they could approach to attend and provide services. Claire also suggested that after contacting Lori Stacy at the senior center maybe the bloodmobile could run a blood drive at the same event. Claire to contact the senior center with ideas and further discussion tabled for the Aug. 19th meeting.
Bill schedules, abatements and payroll were signed.
Correspondence was reviewed.
Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19th at 5:30 p.m.
