Regular meeting of the Monson Board of Health was called to order at 5:31 p.m.
Members present were Carrie Payne, Beau Schneider, Vicki Alfano, Wayne Yee and Joanna Sorreiro.
Lorri McCool, Health/Title V Inspector was also present. Deb Mahar, Financial Director was present.
Deb Mahar provided the Board with a handout containing a report on grants, revolving funds, trash enterprise account and also the general fund appropriation. A breakdown of each account was explained for future reference. Expenses were explained for the purchase of the Big Bellys and also the upcoming Hazardous Waste Day in Nov. Currently there is still monies in the Municipal Recycling Incentive grant fund that should be spent down before June 30th. The Board to take this under advisement for ideas.
Lorri McCool has been in contact with B.J. Church in regards to the process for the High St. address. At this point, information would be going through the Town’s attorney and what might happen to the property in the future.
Lorri stated, that at this time, there is no activity at the T-Peck location upon periodic inspections.
The resident from King St. is currently still residing down at Colonial Village.
Lorri advise the Board that she went out on an inspection with the building commissioner to 194 Main St. and the tenant, as well as the landlord had been sighted for various infractions. After the landlord was contacted by the building dept., a permit was obtained for the necessary repairs. A follow-up inspection will take place at a later date when the work is completed to dept. satisfaction.
Tree House brewery will be holding an event and is planning on serving food through BT Catering out of Sturbridge. Lorri has been in contact with Brian from the company and has advised them that they do need a one day permit and she will be inspecting. They have been advised to submit the paperwork, as soon as possible, to be presented for the Board’s approval and signatures.
Adams IGA has been using a “smoker unit” on their sidewalk for various smoked meats. They would like to incorporate this into part of their store products. Lorri will be working closely with the store to develop a plan for HACCP and work out the critical control points. The fire dept. has also been contacted for fire regulations.
From the poster contest, “Favorites” have been advised per the Town of Monson website under News and Announcements or by calls as they come into the office, that bins will be distributed when the Town receives them.
Carrie Payne said, she had been receiving correspondence from various agencies pertaining to changing the tobacco smoking age for the Town. Many Towns have already changed their requirements. Carrie commented, that from a health perspective, there is long term damage, but from a civic point of view, there are many opinions. Joanna Sorreiro commented that more focus should be on education, especially with younger children and she deplores all the regulations that infringe on one’s personal choice and rights. Further discussion tabled for future meeting, as literature arrives.
Claire Forgues advised the Board that the Coalition still had funds for the Board to be spent prior to June 30th. An order had been put through for a new cash box to be used for Bulky Day and also a few new office racks. Further supplies will be ordered to spend down the account.
Hazardous Waste Day to be scheduled for the first Sat. in Nov. which is the 7th.
Claire Forgues informed the Board that the CVS drug take back receptacle is here in the police station and will be permanently installed in the coming week. After installation, the Journal Register can be contacted for a press release.
Vicki Alfano said, that a medical rep. from her office has been in touch with the police chief to obtain another sharps container for the police station.
Joanna Sorreiro picked up the Bite Lab in Amherst on Monday the 11th. The scheduling did not fit with the schools for the display, so at a later date, Joanna will attempt to obtain the display again and have a presentation at the schools. Possibly this Fall.
Joanna Sorreiro made motion to accept the minutes from the May 6, 2015 meeting and seconded by Vicki Alfano. All in favor. The minutes of March 20, 2013 cannot be accepted at this time and were tabled. Lorri McCool retaining #6 from Jan. 8, 2014 meeting.
Bill schedules, abatements and payroll were signed.
Vicki Alfano asked, Claire Forgues, if she could type up a new, updated phone/e-mail list for all Board members.
Beaver permit re-wording discussion tabled for future meeting.
Wayne Yee is working on a new logo for the BOH stationery and other items pertaining to the Board. Further ideas will be discussed at a future meeting.
Correspondence was reviewed.
Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday June 10, 2015 at 5:30 pm. Possibly, a trip to 29 Thompson St. can be scheduled for June 17th to evaluate the feasibility of using the location for Bulky day.
Carrie Payne excused herself from the meeting at 6:50 p.m. for a prior commitment.
Beau Schneider made motion to adjourn at 7:30 pm, seconded by Joanna Sorreiro.
