Minutes of 2015 4/08
BOH
April 08, 2015
Regular meeting of the Monson Board of Health was called to order at 5:40 p.m.
Members present were Beau Schneider, Vicki Alfano, Wayne Yee and Joanna Sorreiro.
Lorri McCool, Health/Title V Inspector was also present. Carrie Payne was absent

Beau Schneider made motion to accept the minutes from the March 25, 2015 meeting and seconded by Vicki Alfano.  All in favor. The minutes of March 20, 2013 cannot be accepted at this time and were tabled. Lorri McCool retaining #6 from Jan. 8, 2014 meeting.

Lorri McCool informed the Board how efficient and enjoyable it is working alongside the building commissioner, B.J. Church. Depending on individual situations and circumstances, there are many overlaps where both departments work together to draft letters, arrange inspections, attend court appearances, etc.  Working in conjunction with the building dept. utilizes both departments in a most efficient manner. Wayne Yee asked Lorri, for a recent example of the collaboration of the two departments and Lorri sited both the High St. and T-Peck Rd. locations. Many times, code violations coincide with each dept. and with communication, repetitive paperwork can be eliminated or kept minimal.

Lorri McCool advised the Board that the “Drug Take Back Days” have been discontinued through the local police depts. A local district attorney advised that a program installing kiosks in police departments for drop-offs of drugs (no sharps/liquids) only is in the proposal stage. Lorri stated, she thinks the Ludlow Police Dept. might already be up and running. The town of Hampden might be in the planning stage in conjunction with CVS for some sort of installation of a kiosk at their local station. Lorri will gather further information.

Spring Bulk Day has been scheduled and Board members will distribute flyers to local businesses. Beau Schneider has taken the banner and will update the event dates and get the banner to Rodney Beaulieu at Payne Gang for installation. Beau Schneider will speak to Woodbine and also Adams for their donations. Final details will be discussed at the April 22nd meeting.

Re-wording of the line item for the BOH re-cycling account has been submitted and returned by Deb Mahar to now include Hazardous Waste wording.

Bill schedules, abatements and payroll were signed.

Vicki Alfano has distributed the Re-cycling Contest poster board to Quarry Hill and Granite Valley Schools respectfully. Joanna Sorreiro will collect the finished posters at both schools on Friday, April 17th and bring them to the BOH office. The posters will be judged at the April 22nd meeting to determine the winners.

Wayne Yee will provide the BOH office with the file containing the flyer and directions to be uploaded to a link on the BOH home page.

Beaver permit re-wording discussion tabled for next meeting. Beau Schneider will contact other surrounding towns to ask for their input on their beaver permits. Beau asked members present, to give thought to the possible re-wording they would like to see on the permits and ideas can be discussed at meetings in the future. A letter from a new trapper that contacted the office via mail was reviewed. Joanna Sorreiro inquired, as to what follow-up on captured beavers is requested by the BOH or submitted at this time? Do other towns have regulations in place? Currently, the BOH does not usually get any feedback on 10 day permits issued. Possibly, this could be something requested from the trapper in the future.

Updating of BOH home page on town website tabled for future meeting.

Monies from Republic Services, “gifts to the town” will be forwarded soon per Bruce Stanas  via check made out to the Town of Monson to order the defibrillator for 110 Main St.

Correspondence was reviewed.    Lorri McCool still has #6 from Jan. 8, 2014 meeting.

Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday April 22, 2015 at 5:30 pm.
Beau Schneider made motion to adjourn at 7:45 pm, seconded by Joanna Sorreiro.
