July 8, 2013
Regular meeting of the Monson Board of Health was called to order at 5:35 p.m.
Members present were Beau Schneider and Carrie Payne. Phyllis Klick was absent.
Motion to accept the minutes from June 19, 2013 were made by Beau Schneider and seconded by Carrie Payne . All in favor.
The minutes of March 20, 2013 cannot be accepted at this time and were tabled.
Phyllis Klick’s resignation was read and regretfully accepted effective July 15, 2013.
Beau Schneider suggested this might be a good opportunity to establish BOH policy for new appointees to the Board. Possibly get input from other departments on how they select new members and do a review and re-organizing. Carrie Payne brought up, what has the policy been in the past to appointing new members and now the Board could discuss and put in place procedures for applying to the Board, re-organizing and then certifying new members. If an individual expressed an interest, they might be asked to attend a meeting, discuss the responsibilities on the Board, submit a letter of intent to both the BOH and the Selectman. Further discussion and ideas were tabled until the Aug. 7th meeting.
Bill schedules and licenses signed. Vice Chair, Beau Schneider will temporarily sign under BOH Chairman until the Board is re-structured.
Board of health responsibilities:
- Beavers – Carrie Payne –nothing new to report.
- Bulky Day – Ms. Klick ____not present Fall Bulky Day Oct. 5th
- Communicable Diseases-Mr. Beau Schneider- nothing new to report
- Emergency Preparedness –Carrie Payne----- nothing new to report- Carrie to complete ICS online training.
- Finances- Phyllis & Beau_- Review of finance to be done in consideration of a Hazardous Waste day possibly in Oct.
- Floor Drains- Beau Schneider-nothing new to report. Reminder letters sent to individuals with floor drains that have not returned their paperwork. Deadline for return is Aug. 7th, 2013.
- Food Safety-Beau Schneider-Beau asked, if there had been follow-up to the complaint at Maria’s Pizza. Non at this time to report.
- Hazardous Waste Day-Phyllis Klick____ tabled until Aug. 7th meeting for more discussion.
- Health Fair- Carrie-nothing new to report.
- Medical Reserve Corp.__Beau – nothing new to report.
- Outdoor Wood Burning Units__Beau—ongoing discussion about BOH policy for inspections. Tabled for more discussion at Aug. 7th meeting. Lorri McCool to do the inspection for the new permit at 39 Cote Rd.
- Press Relations-Carrie Payne- nothing new to report.
- Recycling-Phyllis – not present.
- Tobacco- Beau –Board advised of training to be held Tues. July 23rd for retail business owners to train their staff in the sale of tobacco products. Posted on Town website under News and Announcements.
- Trash-Phyllis—not present.
- Wells-Lorri McCool & Beau Schneider-nothing new to report.
Reviewed correspondence and mail.
Beau Schneider has the 2013-2014 paperwork to order the new flu vaccine for the coming season. He will talk to former Board member, Peg Harrison who did the ordering in the past and Beau will then take care of the proper paperwork.
Carrie Payne asked, who monitors town water? Beau Schneider advised, the water dept. send the BOH a written report twice a year with the monitoring.
Next meeting scheduled for Wednesday August 7, 2013.
Beau Schneider made motion to adjourn at 7:15 p.m. and seconded by Carrie Payne.
