Sept. 19, 2012_____________

Regular meeting of the Monson Board of Health was called to order at ____________5:34p.m._____
by_Gary Allard_________.  Members present: _____Gary Allard, Phyllis Klick, Peg Harrison, Beau Schneider, and Jane Jacobs. Guests: Fred Wakem and Jane Comeau. Member absent:  ____none_________.   

The Board read and reviewed the minutes of __Sept. 5, 2012___.  Ms. Peg Harrison moved to accept the Minutes as presented, seconded by Mr. Beau Schneider and voted unanimously.

Board of Heath Responsibilities:
  • Beavers – Mr. Allard _______nothing new to report__________
  • Bulky Day – Ms. Klick  Sat. Oct. 6th, 2012 Ms. Klick has haulers scheduled and the press release is being written to be submitted for the press release. Looking into changing fees on Tv’s and possibly some electronics. P & F Salvage was in attendance and they were asked to make a donation to the BOH after they removed the scrap metal, batteries and possibly tires. No monetary figure was agreed upon at this time. No black trash bags to be permitted or anything that could be put curbside. Per Claire Forgues, all workers ( Linda Hull, Kimmee Wood, Barbara Moran and herself) will attend. No date or plans per Mr. Allard for a Hazardous Waste Day. Last one was held Oct. 2011.
  • Communicable Diseases – Mr. Schneider –continued updates about EEE in surrounding areas. Five cases to date. Mr. Beau Schneider spoke of another state link, but he will continue to monitor at this time. Links added to main page of Town website from BOH page for easier access. Availability of biscuits, spraying and required distribution license to be checked by Claire Forgues. BOH members reviewed paperwork received on Hepatitus A case. Mr. Beau Schneider to monitor. Anticipated flu vaccine has not arrived as of yet. Claire Forgues is to start monitoring the temperatures of the refrigerator twice daily and keeping the log current. Literature received by BOH on thermometers to be reviewed by Mr. Beau Schneider.Tentative date for clinic will be Oct. 5th. No further details to be released until vaccine and quantities received. Flyers, press release and details at that time. The Health Fair banner to be brought to Hampden Sign by Ms. Peg Harrison for changes and updates. Information on WWLP.com for “Drug Take-Back” scheduled for Sept. 29th, 2012 reviewed and Ms. Peg Harrison to call and see,  if Monson residents eligible.

  • Emergency Preparedness – Chair Gary Allard would like follow-up with Evan Brassard and Liz Manley about shelter preparedness and MRC. Claire to contact them again to see, if they can attend the next meeting by e-mail. It was also mentioned by Mr. Gary Allard that he would like to see some kind on “lock-box” for medications and valuables during an emergency situation. This will also be brought up to Liz Manley and Evan Brassard.

  • Food Safety – Ms. Jacobs ____nothing new to report

  • Hazardous Waste Day – Ms. Klick _____nothing scheduled_____
  • Health Fair – Ms. Jacobs & Peg Harrison –Date of Oct. 20, 2012 – work in progress. Ms. Peg Harrison said, they do not need MRC to help. Ms. Harrison said, she already has RN’s to assist. Will discuss with Liz Manley.

  • Medical Reserve Corps –Ms. Harrison- nothing new to report_________

  • Wells – Mr. Allard _______The Board reviewed the water testing report on Echo Hill Orchards.  Acceptable report although, Chair Gary Allard would like revisions made to the well testings in the future. Will request Lorri McCool's input for revisions. The requirements should be ammended to show where the wells are located, how deep they are which could be indicated by either a dug well (25' or so) compared to a drilled well ( 100'+). Surface waters that leach into a dug well from the use of pesticides could present a problem.

  • Bill schedules and permits signed.
New Correspondence- reviewed report on Hepatitus A case in Monson.  

Ms. Peg Harrison advised that as far as an update on "Sharps and disposal", there will be information at the Health fair and she also listed a couple of telephone #'s in the Senior Ctr. bulletin. If the BOH receives any calls, advise working on solution.

Trash abatements submitted by the Town Collector were signed.
