Board of Health Office                                                   6:00 PM
29 Thompson Street, Monson, MA  01057

Regular meeting of the Monson Board of Health was called to order at 6:04 PM by Chair Gary Allard.

Members present:  Peg Harrison, John Schneider, Jane Jacobs.  Also present: Audra Staples- BOH Office Administrator.
Members Absent: Phyllis Click

Ms. Harrison moved to accept the minutes from the November 9, 2011 meeting as presented.

Ms. Jacobs seconded the motion.

It was so voted unanimously.

Flu Shot Clinic
Paul Demaio moved the fridge for Ms. Staples and got it powered up.  The Board’s order has come in and the Town now has 100 doses of the vaccine.  Ms. Harrison and Ms. Staples worked together to write a press release and have it faxed to the Palmer Journal.  The Flu Clinic will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 12PM-6PM.
Well Regulations for Seasonal Food Establishments
The Board reviewed the proposed regulations.  Mr. Allard said that the first paragraph was good but noted that he wants to speak to Ms. McCool in regards to shallow wells or dug wells.  Ms. Staples said she would speak to Ms. McCool about it.  Mr. Allard also expressed a concern that the regulation should clearly advise that the agent will be looking at the history and the environment of the property.  He would also like to know what DEP’s standards are.  This topic will be reviewed again at the December 5th meeting.
BOARD OF HEALTH RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Beavers – Gary- nothing new to report.
  • Bulky Day – Phyllis- nothing new to report.
  • Communicable Diseases –Beau- MAVEN is live and ongoing.  Beau gets notified via email and he then goes into the system and reads the report.  The report tells him which cases are FYI and which cases require follow-up reporting.  He can then print the required reports and send them off to the Doctors and if the Dr.’s respond he inputs that data onto the MAVEN system.
  • Emergency Preparedness – Peg- 2 lists still need to be made for the EMD as far as what areas of the school we will need access to in the event of the shelter opening and what areas we will never access.  List also needs to be made for changes required at the shelter.  Ms. Staples will request that Ms. Manley from the MRC make the list of areas they need access to and the Board will review it at the next meeting before submitting it to the EMD.
  • Finances –Phyllis & Beau- nothing new to report.
  • Floor Drains – Gary- nothing new to report.
  • Food Safety – Jane- nothing new to report.
  • Hazardous Waste Day – Phyllis- the bill came in, it was signed on a bill schedule tonight.  We were just under the limit in cost.  Great Job!
  • Health Fair – Jane & Peg- Ms. Harrison is waiting to hear back from the PTO.
  • Medical Reserve Corps – Peg- Mr. Allard went to the Volunteer Appreciation event.  They had a mild turn-out.  The Board would still like to go forward with a recruitment of MRC members specifically for shelter operations.  Ms. Staples will send a letter to Ms. Manley to request a recruiting press release be put out for the MRC people to help at the shelter.  The Board would like for this campaign to focus on informing the public that they do not need any medical knowledge or experience to join the MRC.  This topic will be revisited at the December 5th meeting.
  • Outdoor Wood Burning Units- Gary- nothing new to report.
  • Press Relations – Gary- Press Release sent to the Palmer Journal for the Flu Clinic.
  • Recycling – Phyllis- nothing new to report.
  • Tobacco –Beau- nothing new to report.
  • Trash – Phyllis- nothing new to report.
  • Wells – Gary- as discussed above.  Mr. Allard will email the Board a draft he made at home of the well regulations with his changes.
The Board feels strongly about establishing a “Monson Shelter Volunteers” group.  Possibly partnering with the First Church as well as other churches in town.

Correspondence was reviewed- no action was taken.
