Regular meeting of the Monson Board of Health was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chairman Gary Allard.  Members present: Phyllis Klick, Margaret Harrison, Jane Jacobs and John Schneider.

After reading and reviewing the minutes of January 5, 2011, Ms. Klick moved to accept as presented, seconded by Ms. Jacobs and voted unanimously.

The first topic for discussion on the agenda was rules/guidelines for testing of wells for establishments that provide food/liquid to the public that are not listed as public water supplies by the Department of Environmental Protection.  As Ms. McCool was unavailable for this meeting, as well as the next, this topic will be tabled and discussed further at the March 16th meeting.  Ms. McCool will be asked to attend that meeting.

The Board signed necessary correspondence and initialed all bills.

Board of Health Responsibilities:
  • Beavers – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.
  • Bulky Day – Ms. Klick informed Board members that the dates are May 7th and October 1st.  Permission to use the parking lot at the school will be requested and the banner needs to be located for the date changes.
Communicable Diseases – Mr. Schneider informed Board members there were no new illnesses reported.  However, he has been in touch with the Department of Public Health as our reporting forms are obsolete and need to be updated.  The office has received a C D with the necessary forms on it for reporting purposes.
Emergency Preparedness – Katheen Conley Norbut will be giving a speech at the Senior Center.
Finances – Ms. Klick and Mr. Schneider had nothing to report.
Floor Drains – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.
Food Safety – Ms. Jacobs had nothing to report.
Hazardous Waste Day – Ms. Klick informed the Board she will call some companies to get prices.
  • Health Fair – Ms. Jacobs and Ms. Harrison have set May 21st as the date for the Health Fair and asked Mr. Schneider for some ideas he may have on the subject.
Housing Safety – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.
Medical Reserve Corps – Ms. Harrison had nothing to report.
Outdoor Hydronic Heaters – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.
Press Relations. - Ms. Jacobs had nothing to report.
Recycling – Ms. Klick had nothing to report.
Tobacco – Mr. Schneider had nothing to report.  However, the office received a letter from Tobacco Control Director, Sarah McColgan, informing the Board that over the next three months, the Mass Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program will be conducting tobacco retail inspections/compliance checks.  (see letter #14)
Trash – Ms. Klick had nothing to report.
Wells – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.



The Board read and reviewed correspondence and took necessary actions.

The Board received a copy of a letter addressed to the Planning Board from Lorri McCool in regard to a special permit to operate a equine facility to board horses and give riding lessons at 38 Waid Road.  This will be discussed at the meeting of March 16th.

At 6:45 p.m., Ms. Harrison moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Ms.  Klick and voted unanimously.
