Regular meeting of the Monson Board of Health was called to order by Vice Chairman Gary Allard.  Members present: Margaret Harrison and Jane Jacobs.  Member absent: Dr. Richard Smith and Phyllis Klick.

The Board signed all necessary correspondence and initialed bills.

The Board will read and review the minutes of February 3, 2010 at the next meeting.

The Board next read and reviewed the 2009 Annual Town Report submitted by Chairman Dr. Richard Smith.  Ms. Jacobs moved to accept and submit this report to be printed in the 2009 Annual Town Report Book, seconded by Ms. Harrison and voted unanimously.

Board of Health Responsibilities:

  • Beavers – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.
  • Body Art Regulations – Ms. Jacobs had nothing to report.
  • Bulky Day – There was nothing to report.
  • Communicable Diseases – Ms. Jacobs had nothing to report.
  • Emergency Preparedness – Ms. Harrison had nothing to report.
  • Finances – There was nothing to report.
  • Floor Drains – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.  
  • Food Safety – Ms. Jacobs had nothing to report.
  • Hazardous Waste Day – The Board asked Ms. Taft if she could check with the Town Accountant to see if grant monies can be used for this purpose.  Also, Health Agent Lorri McCool will be asked to see what other towns are doing.
  • Health Fair – Ms. Harrison and Ms. Jacobs stated this will be held in September.
  • Housing Safety – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.
  • Medical Reserve Corps – Ms. Harrison had nothing to report.
  • Outdoor Hydronic Heaters – Mr. Cardano had emailed the office asking if the state had changed its ruling on its regulations allowing residents to burn coal.  Ms. Taft informed the Board she had responded to the negative and forwarded the email to Ms. McCool to respond to further.
  • Press Relations – There was nothing to report.
  • Recycling – There was nothing to report.
  • Tobacco – Mr. Allard was informed of a letter the Board had received and discussed at the last meeting from Sarah McColgan from the Massachusetts Health Officers Association in regard to tobacco compliance checks in Monson.  Mr. Allard felt the Board should have been notified prior to the checks and not after the effect.  He asked that this be placed on the agenda and discussed further at the next meeting.
  • Trash – There was nothing to report.
  • Wells – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.

At 8:00 p.m. Ms. Jacobs moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Ms. Harrison and voted unanimously.
