Regular meeting of the Monson Board of Health was called to order by Chairman Dr. Richard Smith at 7:30 p.m. Members present: Gary Allard, Phyllis Klick and Jane Jacobs. Member absent: Margaret Harrison.
The Minutes of June 3, 2009 were read and reviewed. Mr. Allard mentioned that on page 2, paragraph two the sentence: As this area is basically a swamp, it was determined that it could not be treated - should be changed to read that the town could not treat the area as it is private property. Ms. Jacobs moved to accept the minutes with this change, seconded by Mr. Allard and so voted.
The Board signed all necessary correspondence and initialed all bills.
The Board reviewed all requests for food permits for the Summerfest event for 2009. Ms. Klick moved to approve the requests, seconded by Ms. Jacobs and voted unanimously.
Board of Health Responsibilities:
- Beavers – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.
- Body Art Regulations – Ms. Jacobs had nothing to report.
- Bulky Day – Ms. Klick had nothing to report.
- Communicable Diseases – Ms. Jacobs reported one case of Group A streptococcus
- Emergency Preparedness – There was nothing to report.
- Finances – Dr. Smith had nothing to report.
- Floor Drains – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.
- Food Safety – Ms. Jacobs had nothing to report.
- Hazardous Waste Day – Ms. Taft had spoken to Arlene Miller in East Longmeadow to discuss Monson residents being able to dispose of material at East Longmeadow’s hazardous waste day in September. The Board wanted to put an ad in the paper notifying residents they could contact the East Longmeadow Board of Health to set up appointments and pay for their disposal. Ms. Miller did not agree with this idea and wanted to speak again to Ms. Klick, who will contact her on this issue.
- Health Fair – This will be held next year.
- Housing Safety – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.
- Medical Reserve Corps – There was nothing to report.
- Outdoor Hydronic Heaters – There was nothing to report.
- Press Relations – There was nothing to report.
- Recycling – It was determined that Colonial Village does not recycle bottles. There are two recycling containers in each building – for paper and cardboard. Health Board members felt that the Village should be recycling bottles. The Board read and reviewed a letter forwarded to them by the Selectmen’s office from MassRecycle in regard to the Bottle Bill.
- Tobacco – Dr. Smith had nothing to report.
- Trash – Ms. Klick had nothing to report.
- Wells – Mr. Allard had nothing to report.

At 7:50 p.m. Ms. Jacobs moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Ms. Klick and voted unanimously.
