MONSON BOARD OF HEALTH
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16, 2003
The regular meeting of the Monson Board of Health convened at 7:30 p.m. in the Board of Health meeting room at 110 Main Street. In attendance were Dr. Richard Smith, Jane Jacobs, Robert Bator and Susan Easton.
The meeting minutes of April 2, 2003 were accepted.
Dot Jenkins attended this meeting for a discussion regarding the mailing of trash bills. Ms. Jenkins stated the 2nd half of the trash bills have been mailed out. The data for these bills is compiled by the Assessors Office. Each mailing costs $1,409.00 for envelopes, the bills and postage. She would like to see just one mailing. Ms. Easton suggested one mailing with two bills inside. By doing this, residents could make one payment now and the second payment when it is normally due. Dr. Smith stated people tend to forget to pay the second portion or misplace it. The Board voted unanimously to just have one trash bill in January that will be due in February as suggested by Ms. Jenkins.
Dr. Smith stated the recycle bins would probably not be received in time to sell at Bulky Day. He said he would check on this with Kathy.
Bulky Day is all set for May 17th. The school also has something planned for this day and will need part of the upper parking lot. BFI was unable to provide the dumpsters on May 31st as another town has reserved the dumpsters for their Bulky Day. Dot Jenkins stated she has the date for Bulky Day advertised on her web site along with the due dates of bills sent out by her office. The “Klicky Swap Area” will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. as Dr. Smith stated he didn’t want any of the workers there past the closing time of 2:00 p.m. Dr. Smith also suggested ordering more of the compactors instead of the dumpsters as the compactor held an awful lot.
Ms. Jacobs stated BFI will deliver three 30 yard dumpsters. Dr. Smith said our contract calls for 40 yard dumpsters instead of the 30 yard. East Coast Electronics’ is going to charge $650.00 for their dumpster and $585.00 if the dumpster is replaced. P & F is going to take all of the metal along with the lawnmowers and snow blowers. The Fire Department will not be taking propane tanks this time. Everything is all set with the Highway Department. On the morning of Bulky Day, Dr. Smith and Mr. Bator will take care of the tables, chairs and everything else that needs to be transported to Quarry Hill School for Bulky Day. Dr. Smith said he would speak with Gretchen about advertising on the Town’s web site. He will also call the newspaper and suggested placing ads on M-PACT and WARE radio.
Dr. Smith said he received a call from Sarah McColgan who said Woodbine was found not responsible on their October 23 violation of selling tobacco to minors. Mr. Nothe said he paid his fine. The Clerk Magistrate said he didn’t. Dr. Smith stated if it isn’t paid within a certain amount of time to fine him. Ms. Easton said a notice should be mailed to Mr. Nothe. Dr. Smith agreed Mr. Nothe should show proof of payment or to mail a check to cover the fine, otherwise he will be taken back to court. This was agreed upon unanimously. Dr. Smith stated he would notify Ms. McColgan of this decision.
Ms. Jacobs said she has received the information from the woman in Ludlow regarding the Health Fair and we might be able to get a few names off the list, such as Ms. McColgan, Walgreen’s, Weight Watchers, Randal’s Fruit Farm, just to name a few. Ms. Jacobs said she would go through the list and come up with a new contact list. It was mentioned that Scott Fletcher, with the Boy Scouts, is trying to do a Health Fair in June and would like to do this annually.
Everything requiring signatures were signed.
Correspondence was looked over.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
