BOARD OF HEALTH
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1, 2001
The regular meeting of the Board of Health convened at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Lucy Shrenker, Jane Jacobs, Dr. Richard Smith, Richard Klick and Robert Bator.
The members discussed the importance of “tracking” purchases of recycled materials by Monson municipal offices and schools. Key people in each Town municipal office, who order these goods must keep “track” of these purchases, so we, the Board of Health, can enter them as credit towards our recycling grants.
Lucy Shrenker and Richard Klick volunteered to attend a MRIP meeting in Northampton on Tuesday, August 2, 2001.
Further discussion was held regarding future united endeavors, which would combine our efforts and other municipalities in recycling events. There were no dates set.
The West Nile Virus issue was discussed and Richard Klick informed the Board that Central Monson was being attended to in a joint effort with the Parks and Recreation Department and Highway Department in the distribution of Larvacide Combatants, (briquettes).
Lucy Shrenker and the Board had asked Richard Klick to investigate the trash abatement issue of Roger
Harris of 215 Main Street.
Jane Jacobs reported seven dead birds. The state did not test these birds.
The Board approved the disbursement of recycling bins to the Schools that need them. Richard Klick was appointed overseer of the disbursement. Arleen Miller approved the bins.
Richard Klick discussed an informal complaint he had received about someone with 27 cats. The Board decided to take no official action unless the complaint becomes official.
It was brought to the Boards attention, from several complaints by tenants at Colonial Village, that a tenant was raising birds. This could present a health problem and might be an infringement of the rights of other tenants and treads the law of zoning. Lucy Shrenker, as Chair for the Board of Health, asked Robert Bator, who is a resident at Colonial Village, to draft a letter to the Director of the Housing Authority, Donna Gilman, if she needed some assistance in addressing this complaint. It was suggested this be done before it becomes a formal complaint that the Board of Health would get involved with.
Jane Jacobs is looking into windbreaker jackets that the Board members can use during its recycling efforts. The appropriations would come from Recycling Funding and was approved by Arleen Miller as being an appropriate use of funds. The jackets would improve visibility while moving through traffic at Board of Health sponsored events and properly identify Board of Health members to the public during these events.
The Board of Health signed all necessary correspondence and initialed all bills.
At 9:00 p.m., the Board of Health voted to adjourn the meeting.
Respectfully Submitted,
Robert Bator, Acting on behalf of the Recording Secretary and the Board of Health
