Board of Assessors
Wednesday July 28, 2010
Members Present: Chairman Russell Bressette Jr. and Assessor  Allan Curtis

Open the Meeting:  The meeting was called to order at 11:30am.


Accept the Minutes:  A motion was made by Allan and seconded by Russell to accept the minutes of June 23, 2010 minutes.  The motion passed unanimously.

OLD BUSINESS:

The Board of Assessors reviewed correspondence from the EACC regarding the status of the Certified Project designation for Tower View.  Allan motioned and Russell seconded that the principal assessor draft a letter to Ed Harrison inquiring on the meeting that was held with Tower View recently and to request a copy of any documentation supporting that required reports were submitted to the EACC on time in order for the assessors to maintain the agreed assessment schedule.


NEW BUSINESS:

The Board voted and approved the following Motor Vehicle Commitments:
  • 2010 Commitment 4 in the amount of $45,702.00
  • 2009 Commitment 10 in the amount of $327.50
  • 2010 Recommitment 03A   in the amount of $443.75
The Board voted and approved the following Motor Vehicle Abatements:
  • 2010 Abatements in the amount of $1805.57
  • 2009 Abatements in the amount of $531.30
The Board voted and denied 2 Motor Vehicle Abatement applications because they did not meet the criteria to be abated.

The Board voted and approved 3 Chapterland 61 applications.

The Board discussed the Chapter59 Section 58 Discount on taxes law.  Allan motioned and Russell seconded that a warrant be placed on the Annual Town Meeting next spring to repeal the acceptance of this law as it no longer pertains to our community.

The Board was updated on the progress of the Administrative Clerks position.

The Board was updated on the progress of the 2011 revaluation.  Allan motioned and Russell seconded that the principal assessor draw up a letter for the Board to send to the Board of Selectmen requesting that Fall Town Meeting be held in a timely manner due to the length of time that it takes to receive certification from the Department of Revenue.  The Board will stop by to review and sign the letter.

The board was updated on miscellaneous items.

The next meeting was scheduled for Wednesday August 18, 2010 at 11:30am

ADJOURN:  At 12:15pm, a motion was made by Allan and seconded by Russell to adjourn.  The motion passed unanimously.
