Board of Assessors
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
Meeting convened at 3:35 p.m.
In attendance:  Russell Bressette, Chairman

                Diane Hildreth, Principal Assessor

The minutes from the January 17, 2007 meeting was approved.

The following residents attended the Board of Assessors meeting:
Robert Fay, Karen King and Amy & Raymond Johnson all of Longview Drive.  Six residents of Longview Drive had concerns of disparity in their assessments.  Collectivity a letter was signed and sent to the Board of Assessors.  The board members rearranged their agenda to accommodate these residents with the letter read verbatim to satisfy the request of the residents. The Assessors listened to the concerns of the residents and will review this issue and the abatement applications in a timely manner.

Ann Murphy made a motion to bring forth a warrant article at the Annual Town Meeting to exempt personal property value of under $5,000. Russell Bressette seconded. This provision was recently enacted into law to be accepted as a local option by a municipality if the said municipality felt it was in the best interest to the Town.  The board members weighed the cost effectiveness and the minimal revenue received prior to their decision to request this warrant article be put before the voters.

The board discussed the 2008 Revaluation for this upcoming fiscal year.  A representative from the Department of Revenue’s (DOR) Division of Local Services (DLS) will be in-house in the next few weeks.  After reviewing the most critical needs the board member have re-prioritized the work plan to ensure all tasks are completed on schedule.  

The board reviewed and approved five veteran statutory exemptions.  Also approved and signed were the 2006 Motor Vehicle Excise commitment 7 in the amount of $8,725.75 and 2007 Motor Vehicle and Excise commitment 1 in the amount of $694,170.

The board started the review process for abatement applications received.  Two real estate applications were tabled due to more information required. Four applications were denied. Eight abatements were approved.  At the next meeting the board will continue the review process.

All other correspondence since the last meeting was reviewed.

Meeting was adjourned at 7 PM.

The next meeting is scheduled for March 7, 2007 at 3:30 PM.
