Meeting of 2009-08/04
CPC minutes – August 4th, 2009

Members present: Dennis Swierad, Leslie Duthie, Robert Presho, Karen King, Michael Benfield, Bill Skillman,

Bill motioned to accept July minutes, Dennis 2nd, AIF

By September 15th reporting needs to be done so the Department of Revenue does not hold up funds. Faith will do with Leslie’s help

Time to renew Community Coalition, Bill made a motion to accept we pay dues, Dennis 2nd, AIF

Leslie has not heard from the Bellman, she did talk to Carol…. Told her that we needed 2 current bids, we haven’t heard anything else since.

Leslie told Tim (Parks & Rec.) about the letter of support for the Flynt Park baseball diamond from Ken Albano, we haven’t seen an updated application.

Michael talked with Katherine Roth, Bill wrote up a very nice application for the rotating fund for the Senior Center, Michael brought it to Judy, she was out straight with grant applications….
Katherine gave Mike a couple of names to help with wording but has not been able to get in touch with either contact.
Karen asked if there was anyone that may be able to help out with this, not really….
Katherine explained that improvements done to private residents are tricky, Michael wanted to make sure he had the wording correct so the application had a good chance of being approved.

Karen asked if Colonial Village needed any funds, Robert said that Donna Bergeron is working on an application and sending it in.

Leslie brought the new application for the Flynt Quarry. Leslie discussed this with the LAND Local Acquisition, for Natural Diversity will provide $258,4000, this is a 68% reimbursement rate for the town. Leslie added 15,000 for stewardship…., also that $5,000 would be used to improve the trails. Since the large washout in August the trails really need some work. There is a gentleman that works with the Opacum foundation that does really well with the trails. In order to use CPA funds there has to be a conservation restriction. They will do some fund raisers, possibly a trail run, etc. Leslie mentioned that this application covers three venues, recreation, historic, and open space. The Opacum Land Trust will be responsible for maintaining the trails. We will not know until Oct 15th if the land grant goes through, if it doesn’t this application is null. Leslie will be beginning to organize fund raising in the community.
Robert wondered how much competition there was for the funds, Leslie was sure there was some but this application is a good application because it does cover three venues. December 31st is the drop dead date on this. If anyone has any questions Leslie will be available to answer them.

We’re waiting for updated information from the Bellman, and Parks and Rec, (Faith will talk with Tim about this), and the housing authority.

Leslie…. we will need a spreadsheet September what we have, what we’ve spent, so we know what we have to work with etc. Faith will talk with Debbie and get this done.

We may have to have an extra meeting in September to go over new applications, there could possibly be 7-8 applications for the November town meeting.

Leslie did mention to Robert in regards to the Senior Center that if there were applications/grants that needed to be continued we could bring it to the spring meeting.

Dennis Motioned to adjourn, Mike 2nd, AIF
