The Chair called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. in Milton High School prior to the beginning of the 2006 Annual Town Meeting.

Approval of the  minutes of May 1, 2006 was deferred.

The Chair advised the Committee that a proposal is being considered by the Board of Selectmen and the School Committee and would be submitted for the Warrant Committee’s consideration.  A potential compromise has been proposed that would result in a reduction of $550,000 from the total requested FY 2007 budget request.  This $550,000 reduction would be taken as follows: The School Department would reduce its budget request by $330,00, the Police Department, the Fire Department and the Department of Public Works would reduce their FY 2007 budget requests by $40,000 each. The Town Administrator also advised the Chair that following competitive bids, the FY 2007 General Insurance budget request could be reduced by $100,000 for a total request of $619,250.  The Committee discussed the potential compromise budget proposal.

Attending the Warrant Committee meeting were Chair of the Board of Selectmen James G. Mullen, Jr., and Members Marion McEttrick and John Michael Shields, Town Administrator David Colton, Assistant Town Administrator Annemarie Fagan and Secretary to the Board Paula Rizzi.  Also in  attendance were Chair of the School Committee Paul Hogan and Members Mary Kelly, Laurie Stillman, Bierne Lovely and Linda Lee Sheridan, School Superintendent Magdalene Giffune, Assistant School Superintendent Mary Gormley and Assistant Superintendent for Business Paul Hilton.

In order to further review this unanticipated proposal, the Committee voted 11-1-0 to recommend the postponement of all financial articles until Thursday, May 4, 2006.

The meeting recessed at 7:15 p.m. to allow the Warrant Committee to attend the second evening of the 2006 Annual Town Meeting.
