BOARD OF SELECTMEN’S MEETING, MONDAY, MAY 14, 2012

In attendance:  J. Thomas Hurley, Robert C. Sweeney, Denis F. Keohane,  Kevin J. Mearn, Town Administrator,  and Paula Rizzi, Executive Secretary

  • Chairman Hurley convened the meeting at 6:31 p.m. in the Main Office Workroom of Milton High School.
  • Denis F. Keohane moved, Robert C. Sweeney seconded and the Board voted unanimously to approve the May 10, 2012 meeting minutes as amended.
  • The Board confirmed the following future meeting dates:  May 31 at 6:30 p.m., June 7 at 6:30 p.m. and June 21 at 8:00 p.m.
  • Denis F. Keohane moved, Robert C. Sweeney seconded and the Board voted unanimously to approve a request for an illuminated sign and canvas at 532 Adams  Street which reflects a change of name from Corcoran Brokerage to Duhallow Real Estate, all other aspects of the current sign remain the same.  This request was approved by the Sign Review Committee.
  • Denis F. Keohane moved, Robert C. Sweeney seconded and the Board voted unanimously to approve a request from the 350th Anniversary Committee to display a banner on the grounds of the library, beginning on May 17 through June 11, to advertise the fireworks and parade weekend.
Denis F. Keohane moved, Robert C. Sweeny seconded and the Board voted unanimously to approve a request from Parks and Recreation to display a banner on the town green from May 15 through June 15 announcing its summer recreation programs contingent upon the removal of this banner during the 350th Anniversary Celebration weekend of June 9 and June 10.

  • Robert C. Sweeney moved, Denis F. Keohane seconded and the Board voted unanimously to approve the following reappointments through May 2013:
  • Town Counsel- John Flynn
  • Keeper of the Lockup (Chief of Police)-Richard G. Wells, Jr.
  • Inspector of Wires-Richard Sass
  • Plumbing and Gas Inspector and Sealer of Weights and Measures-Mark              Kelly
  • Director of Public Works/Town Engineer-Joseph Lynch
  • Assistant Director of Public Works (Operations) and Local Superintendent for the     
 Suppression of Gypsy and Brown Tail Moths-Brian Carlisle
  • Director of Planning and Community Development-William Clark
  • Director of Milton Emergency Management Agency-Mark Williams
  • Veterans and Burial Agent and Director of Veterans Services &Veterans
        Grave Officer-Michael Cunningham
  • Registrar of Voters (one each year-Term = 3 years) Mary Sennott Burke
  • Agent for the Peabody Fund-Diane Ferrari
  • Robert C. Sweeney moved, Denis F. Keohane seconded and the Board voted unanimously to award a contract to Complus Data Innovations, Inc. of Tarrytown New York, commencing on July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2015, for data processing and collection services for parking violations
  • Robert C. Sweeney moved, Denis F. Keohane seconded and the Board voted unanimously to add the names of the Board of Selectmen to a letter of support for the passage of House Bill 3917, a bill that would prevent insurers from unilaterally slashing reimbursements for emergency medical services and give local communities authority to control rates for these services.
  • J. Thomas Hurley moved, Robert C. Sweeney seconded and the Board voted unanimously with J. Thomas Hurley voting yes, Denis F. Keohane voting yes and  Robert C. Sweeney voting yes to enter Executive Session for the purpose of discussing strategy with regard to Contract Negotiations, believing that having this discussion in Open Session would have a detrimental effect on the negotiating position of the body and to return to Open Session to attend Town Meeting.
  • The Board recessed until the beginning of Town meeting.
  • Town meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
