BOARD OF SELECTMEN’S MEETING, TUESDAY, MAY 8, 2012

In attendance:  Robert C. Sweeney, Denis F. Keohane, J. Thomas Hurley, Kevin J. Mearn, Town Administrator, Paula Rizzi, Executive Secretary

  • Chairman Sweeney convened the meeting at 6:29 p.m. in the Main Office Workroom of Milton High School.
  • Denis F. Keohane moved, Robert C. Sweeney seconded and the Board voted unanimously to approve the May 7, 2012 meeting minutes as written.
  • Robert C. Sweeney moved, Denis F. Keohane seconded and the Board voted unanimously to award contracts to the following low bidders on the South Shore Consortium bid list and to authorize the Town Administrator to sign all pertinent paperwork on behalf of the Board
  • Capone Brothers, Inc. – Item 1B, Sidewalks
  • Mass Pavement Reclamation, Inc. – Item #3, Pavement Reclamation
  • Hi-Way Safety Systems, Inc. – Item #6, Pavement Markings
  • Capital Waste Services – Item #11, Debris Disposal
  • Northeast Traffic Control – Furnish/Install Street Name Signs & Posts
  • Robert C. Sweeney moved, Denis F. Keohane seconded and the Board voted unanimously to award a contract in the amount of $705,405.12 to Joseph P. Cardillo and Son, Inc. of Wakefield, MA for watermain construction and to authorize the Town Administrator to sign all pertinent paperwork on behalf of the Board.
  • The Board acknowledged May as Building Safety Month.
  • Robert C. Sweeney moved, Denis F. Keohane seconded and the Board voted unanimously to grant permission only to the following groups to sell their wares at the 350th Anniversary Parade/Celebration:  members of the 350th Committee, any Milton non-profit organization and any Milton School.
  • Robert C. Sweeney moved, Denis F. Keohane seconded and the Board voted unanimously to approve a request from the Brookwood Community Farm for A-frame signs to be displayed in the following three locations announcing its annual seedling sale to support its program of food access work in low income neighborhoods:  Blue Hills Parkway and Canton Avenue; the intersection at Pierce Middle School and the intersection of Squantum and Granite Avenue.
  • The Board agreed to invite the Town Planner to the next regular Board meeting to discuss the East Milton traffic pattern.
  • J. Thomas Hurley moved, Robert C. Sweeney seconded and the Board voted unanimously with J. Thomas Hurley voting yes, Denis F. Keohane voting yes and Robert C. Sweeney voting yes to enter Executive Session for the purpose of discussing strategy with respect to union collective bargaining and litigation, believing that having these discussions in open session would have a detrimental effect on the bargaining/litigating position of the body.
  • The Board met briefly with Chair Glenn Pavlicek to discuss the replacement process for the vacancy on the School Committee.
  • The Board recessed until the beginning of town meeting.
  • Town meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
