The second meeting of the Personnel Board for FY2004 was held on Wednesday, August 20, 2003,  in the Town Office Building at 7:30 p.m.

Present: Stephen G. Hennessy, John Pender,  Iris Kennedy and Ann White.

Absent: Paul Lyons

The Board approved the minutes of the meeting held Thursday, July 10, 2003.

The Board voted 3-1, with Mr. Hennessy voting yes, Mr. Pender voting no, Ms. Kennedy voting yes and Ms. White voting yes,  to approve the employment of Reva Levin, 14 Forest Hills Street, Boston, MA to the position of Program Manager, Level 8, Step 1, effective August 21, 2003, in the Department of Public Works and to waive the one-year waiting period for vacation as follows:  two weeks vacation in calendar year 2004 and three weeks vacation in subsequent years.

The Board voted unanimously to approve the employment of the following individuals to the position of W2 , Step 1,  Maintenance Man, Apprentice Tree Surgeon, MEO Grade 1, effective August 25, 2003, in the Department of Public Works,  subject to successful completion of the required pre-employment medical exam and with the stipulation that all civil service and union rules have been complied with:

Gerry Grealish, 250 Eliot Street, Milton, MA
        Matthew McDaniel a.k.a. Sergio Colarusso, Jr., 49 Putnam Street, Somerville, MA

The Board voted unanimously to approve the employment of Paul Scanlan, 20 Trudy Lane, Canton, MA, to the position of W3, Step 1, Construction and Maintenance Craftsman, MEO Grade 2, effective August 25, 2003, in the Department of Public Works, with the stipulation that he obtains his Hoisting License within the six-month probationary period, that he successfully  completes the required pre-employment medical exams and that all civil service and union rules have been complied with.

The Board voted unanimously to approve the employment  of John Skeffington, 5 Meadowview Road, Readville, MA, to the position of W4, Step 1, Working Foreman, P.W. Maintenance Craftsman, MEO Grade 2, effective August 25, 2003, in the Department of Public Works, subject to successful completion of the required pre-employment medical exam and with the stipulation that all civil service and union rules have been complied with.

The Board voted unanimously to approve the employment of Louis Mihos, 275 Whitman Street, Hanson, MA, to the position of W4, Step 1, Working Foreman, P.W. Maintenance Craftsman, MEO Grade 2, effective September 8, 2003, in the Department of Public Works, subject to successful completion of the required pre-employment medical exam and with the stipulation that all civil service and union rules have been complied with.

The Board voted unanimously  to amend the step for  DPW employee David Cunha from W4, Step 1, to W4, Step 2, as requested by the Director of Public Works.
The Board voted unanimously  to approve the appointment of Patricia Reynolds, 62 Sheldon Street, Milton, MA, to the part-time, 22 hours per week, Principal Clerk position in the Selectmen’s Office and to approve  a split Principal Clerk’s position between the Accounting Department, 15.5 hours per week and the Selectmen’s Office, 22 hours per week.

The Board voted unanimously to approve the employment of Cathie M. McMann, 521 Pleasant Street, Milton, MA, to the position of substitute traffic supervisor, as requested by the Chief of Police.

The Board voted 3-0-1, with Mr. Hennessy voting yes, Mr. Pender abstaining, Ms. Kennedy voting yes and Ms. White voting yes,  to approve the employment of the following individuals to the position of Firefighter, F1, Step 1, effective August 25, 2003,  in the Milton Fire Department with the stipulation that all civil service and union rules have been complied with:

Raymond A. Lashua, Jr., 15 Dartmouth Street, Gardner, MA
Seth Adam Cournoyer, 24 Sumner Avenue, Springfield, MA


The Board voted unanimously to approve and forward to the Warrant Committee the following FY2005 preliminary salary sheets:

Treasurer/Collector Department          $140,071.04
Board of Health                         $118,381.81
        Personnel Department                    $  30,115.91
Veteran Services                                $    8,613.00


The Board noted receipt of  a copy of correspondence generated since the last meeting.
