Plaque presented to Tom Brown for his years of service to the Town of Millbury. We want to thank him on behalf of the Town for everything he has done.
Blackstone Valley Economic Development Council. Joe Deliso came to update the Board.
Millbury was the first town to join the organization and it has been over a year now. Their goal was to have seven towns sign up but got five towns to join-Uxbridge, Douglas, Sutton, Mendon and Millbury. They filed incorporation papers, they are now in business and have an eleven member board-5 from each town, matching number of business members, and there is a rather long waiting list from businesses to get on the board. Chairman is Joe Deliso. Senate bill 2380*see attached * which basically deals with elimination of duplication and overlapping of activities in the Commonwealth to support economic development. It charges the MA Office of Business Development to award up to 12 contracts on an annual basis to regional entities. It requires 10 or more communities, structured leadership,
job creations, multiple industries, history of collaboration. Probably still a year away from realizing the plan. Chairman Plante thinks this will work in time. Looking to create new revenue with planned economic development-they do not want to lose the land to low value activity.
