The Old Indian Meetinghouse renovation project is before the Community Preservation Committee to seek CPA funding at the October 2007 Town Meeting to assist with the its restoration. The building, the oldest Indian Meetinghouse in the United States is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was noted the Tribal Council is also seeking additional grant funding initiatives to fund the restoration project proposal.
A pending matter regarding clear title of the subject property as it relates to grant funding and mandates of the MA Historic Commission was discussed. In an effort to assist the project and not impede the state funding process, the Selectmen agreed to list the Town of Mashpee as a co-applicant.
Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to authorize the Town of Mashpee to enter into an application with the Mashpee Wampanoag Indian Tribal Council to seek grant funding for the restoration of the Old Indian Meetinghouse.
Motion seconded by Selectman Cook.
