Staff Present: Drew McManus (Conservation Agent) and Kris Carpenter (Administrative Secretary)
Call Meeting To Order: 6:55 pm
Pre/Post Hearing Agenda:
- Minutes: Approval of the following minutes: July 28, 2011 & August 11, 2011
Motion made, seconded and unanimously carried to approve the minutes of July 28, 2011 & August 11, 2011
- Vista pruning regulations: Final feedback on proposed changes – The final revised copy was issued and over the next week if there are no additional comments it can then be advertised for the next public hearing. The final step is to promulgate the regulation.
- Americorps individual placement update – September 21 is the orientation for the Americorp volunteer in West Barnstable if anyone is interested in attending. It will be a “meet & greet”. The Agent has prepared a package containing information from the Land Stewards Program and track sticks.
- Dates for next subcommittee meetings – Agent McManus will send an email with optional dates to choose from.

7:00 Robert & Rosemary Holland (63 Stratford Ponds Road) Remove two large pine trees that are hazardous to the home - RDA

Robert Holland explains that there are two trees adjacent to his house that could be a hazard to the dwelling if they were to fall. The trees are overhanging the roof and the pine needles continually clog the down spouts. Agent McManus states that there is no impact to the bank or water quality.
Motion made, seconded and unanimously carried for a Negative Determination
7:03 Peter Baxter (67 Stratford Ponds Road) Remove three large trees that are hazardous to the home - RDA

Mrs. Baxter explains that the trees are very close to the home and because of the root systems; they have had water penetration at the foundation. The pine needles constantly clog the gutters. Mrs. Baxter plans to plant some small ornamentals.

7:06 Jane Howley (184 Daniels Island Road) Replace retaining wall in rear of house, create stairway from house to pool area, replace walkway with blue stone, create walkway in front of house and construct 10’ x 10x pool house on cement blocks (ATF) - RDA

The old retaining wall is approximately 75’ away from the top of an armored coastal bank. Photos were sent to the Agent that shows the old retaining wall was leaning forward and needed immediate replacement. The existing stairway has been resurfaced. Agent McManus states that all work was entirely within hardscape/landscape area and had no issues with performance standards.

7:09 Joseph McGinity (9 Little Neck Lane) Remove two oak trees and replace with blueberry and azaleas – RDA – Cont’d to September 22, 2011 7:00pm

Chairman Fitzsimmons asks for a motion to add an item to the agenda for the purpose to discuss Steven Cook’s application to the Board as an Associate Member. The Board complies with a roll call in which all unanimously agree.
Agent McManus explains that Steve Cook as submitted his application and is very familiar with the Board and will be a benefit to the Commission.
Motion made, seconded and unanimously carried to recommend Mr. Cook as an Associate Member for the Conservation Commission to the Board of Selectmen
Motion made, seconded and unanimously carried to adjourn the meeting at 7:13 pm.
