DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Lynne Waterman distributed her Director’s report for the month of April and reviewed it with the Council members.  She highlighted that she and the Activity Coordinator met with Megan Landrene of Royal Megansett Nursing and Retirement Center to plan an ice cream social in July and they also requested a presentation by their dietitian; Susan Rourke of Comfort Keepers to plan a wreath making program in July as well as other season wreath making workshops;  Elaine Robinson to schedule monthly poetry sessions beginning in June and Adrienne Baumann of Geek Girls to plan two presentations in August and September on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Lynne informed the members that she also met with Linda Zevitas, Nutrition Manager of Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands to review and sign the annual memorandum of understanding.   Director Waterman also met with Joanne Gangemi of the Lyme Awareness Program who decorated the Senior Center entryway with lime green ribbons.    This will coincide with the lime disease /tick presentation.

The Director stated she and the Volunteer Coordinator met with the three volunteers who represented the Mashpee Council on Aging for the first Living Well Mashpee event sponsored by the Mashpee School Department.

The Council on Aging van was serviced by the DPW for its ongoing maintenance.  One repair issue was addressed and the van was serviced by the Ford Dealer.

All of the COA staff attended the CPR/first aide training on April 25 except for two.  She noted the trainers looked at the defibrillator.  There is an expiration date and they had to be replaced so we are now up to speed on this.  She asked them to put us on their list to update the defibrillator and for our required CPR classes.  They also went thru our first aid kit which was inadequate.  They will be putting one on the wall in the dining room and a professional kit in the office area.  Two permanent van drivers attended a training sponsored by Human Resources on avoiding back injuries.   Lynne stated she added to her goals to strengthen training for the Council on Aging staff.

There were some concerns regarding the building such as the ceiling tiles in the library, wood rot on the outside patio area and the need for painting in sink area in the ladies bathroom.  The town’s building manager will be addressing these issues.  Lynne reported that the chairs in the lobby have arrived.

The Director attended the monthly meeting of the Parkinson’s Support Network of Cape Cod and the COAST (Cape Cod Senior Center Directors) monthly meeting.
