COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE

1.  Director’s Report

Jim Long noted he did not have his written report at this time but would forward it to the members.

Jim reported that he has completed the Yearly Annual Report and has forwarded it to town hall and he also submitted the warrant articles for the May town meeting.  He is trying to get caught up and get ahead to help Lynne Waterman with the transition.

Jim said the Holiday luncheon went very well with 60 plus people.  The annual department meeting was held at the Daniel Webster and he wanted to thank the Friends of the Mashpee Council on Aging for their support of this meeting every year.

The holiday gift delivery went very well.

The Activity Volunteer Coordinator will be working from July to June.  The person was hired for 14 hours a week and we anticipate we may be able to utilize that position for up to 28 hours per week which will be a support to Mrs. Waterman since she will be doing two jobs.  The new coordinator has been working out very well.  She is a great team player with great follow up.

The driver that was hired in November was recruited by the Town of Yarmouth and he decided to take that position.  We promoted our sub driver to this position which is 13 hours a week.  We have advertised for a substitute driver.

Jim reported he met with the Finance Committee Liaison who seemed enthusiastic about transportation at the Senior Center.  We have put in a request for additional 6 hours for a driver so we could operate on Fridays. He will be an advocate for us for the 2014 budget.

We are still working on the Tax Abatement Program positions for February, March and April.

Jim passed around the new Mashpee Council on Aging brochure.  The drivers will be taking them around to various buildings for distribution.

Mrs. Waterman and Mrs. Foisy have been working on operating a van to the Market Basket a few days a month.

Mr. Long thanked the staff and particularly the Council on Aging for their support over the years.  He said he has been here for 19 years. We continue to on a daily basis come into a building that is fresh and nice and welcoming.  It is a source of pride for many in town.  He said it has been a great opportunity for him.  His last day is the 25th of January.

Mary Gaffney shared that in the couple years she has been helping out people who come in for legal advice, the clients here are so happy that the senior center is here to help them out with different services.  Even as early as yesterday, the people she met just joined at the recommendation of friends and they are so impressed.

Motion:  Jeanne Noussee moved to accept the Director’s Report as presented, seconded by Virginia McIntyre.     Vote was unanimous.

2.  Treasurer’s Report

Jim Long reviewed the budget as it stands year to date with the Council members.

Motion:  Jack Dorsey moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report, seconded by Virginia   McIntyre.    Voted unanimously.

3.  Outreach Coordinator’s Report

Lynne Waterman distributed her report and reviewed the report with the members.

Seventeen home visits were made this past month.  She met with seniors with financial problems, mental health problems.

Lynne noted much of the time last month was spent coordinating the annual holiday gift delivery and thanked all that helped to make the deliveries successful including the Friends of the Mashpee Council on Aging, the Capers, Home Instead and all the volunteers and also thanked the Mashpee Congregational Church who put together five turkey dinner baskets.

Lynne stated she meets often with Special Police Officer Tara Carline to address senior concerns and continues to meet with the telefriend, SHINE, friendly visitor assistant, grief support, birthday flower delivery, and biography volunteers, to provide supervision and to assign clients.

Lynne attended monthly meeting of the Parkinson’s Support Network and she along with Jim met with Gina Kupski, Representative of the Fallon Health Care.  Lynne has also been meeting with Jim Long in preparation of his retirement in January.

Motion:  Virginia McIntyre moved to accept the Outreach Coordinator’s Report, seconded by Jeanne Noussee.  Vote unanimous.

4.  Volunteer Assistant Report

Lynne reviewed Judith Genge’s Volunteer Assistant Report.  There were no new volunteers for the month.  At this time we have 223 volunteers.  The recruiting of volunteer drivers continue.  They are in need of additional coverage at the front desk.  The holiday delivery was a success.  The plans for January include interviews for new volunteers.

Lynne announced that the nomination for our team of volunteers for the Local Officials Human Services Council (LOHSC) Commendation Award were not selected for the award.  She read the letter received from the LOHSC stating this. Mary Gaffney suggested inserting parts of the letter in the newsletter and Lynne stated she was also thinking of doing something at the volunteers brunch.

Motion:  Jack Dorsey moved to accept the Volunteer Assistant’s Report, seconded by Jack Jordan.  Vote was unanimous.
