Transfer Station Study Committee Minutes 2006/09/06
Minutes of Transfer Station Committee Meeting – September 6, 2006

In attendance:  Pete Bleyler, Cynthia Bognolo, Marya Klee, Pete MacDonald, Steve Maddock
Apologies:  Simon Carr, Al Pryor, Charles Ragan

1.      Compactor – the Committee voted to present the Selectboard with the very similar proposals from Leavitt and Northeast so that we can request a formal bid and close the deal. The removal of the shed and clearing of the site need to be scheduled.  Pete Bleyler will request time for discussion at the Selectboard Meeting on Wednesday, September 13.  All committee members who are available are welcome to attend.

2.      Operations – who is on the current roster of employees for the Transfer Station?  Will there be a search for a part-time manager when the compactor is in place?

3.      Hazardous Waste Day – Steve will post a notice on the ListServ as a reminder for the September 9 date.

4.      NRRA – Bonnie Cook of NRRA paid a visit to our Transfer Station.  She complimented our “neat and tidy” operation and suggested that we turn the refrigerators so that the compressors face outward to speed up the work of de-gassing.  There are 20 of the required 25 refrigerators on site so we will need the contractor soon.

5.      NRRA – Our year to date activity with NRRA results in a net cost of $762 for the removal of 136 tons of fiber, containers, metal and tires.  It would have cost $11,560 to landfill this waste at the rate of $85 per ton.

6.      Next meeting – The next meeting will be Wednesday, September 20, 10:30 a.m. at the Lyme Fire Station Meeting Room.

Respectfully submitted, Marya Klee
