Selectboard Minutes 2007/02/12 (Emergency Session)
Draft:  February 12, 2007
Approved:  February 14, 2007

TOWN OF LYME
BOARD of SELECTMEN
Minutes
February 12, 2007
6:00  pm – Town Offices
Continuation of the Board’s Emergency meeting held on Saturday, 2/10/07 for purposes of safety and air quality issues in the police offices and the fire station.

Present:  Carole Bont, Judy Brotman, Dick Jones, Charles Ragan.

1.      The Board approved  the amended public hearing minutes of 1/31/07 – as amended and reformatted by Carole Bont.  This version of the minutes correctly indicates the closing of the public hearing and then recessing of the Board of Selectmen’s meeting to the following morning.
2.      The Board agreed to have Carole continue her practice of writing down the names of all hearing attendees, and recording especially those who speak.
3.      The Board continued the discussion of the relocation of the police department offices.
a.      The board reviewed an additional alternative space at the Mascoma Bank building.  Both Charles and Judy were familiar with the space and felt that it did not meet the Town’s needs.  The additional financial cost for the larger space is merited for the proposed use.
b.      Under discussion is a 5-year lease with an option to renew.  It is not yet decided if the lease will include utilities or if the town will pay for these separately.
c.      The police are in the process of moving into the space at this time.
d.      The Fast Squad training was relocated from the Fire Station training room on Saturday morning.  Tonight’s Fire training was also asked to be relocated to another meeting room.  Sunday’s 8th Grade bake sale was located just outside the Fire Station, with power and water provided.
4.       The Board discussed tomorrow’s Public Hearing
a.      The minutes of the 1/31 pubic hearing will be available
b.      Presentation of the current (new) police office
c.      Presentation of the current plans (same as last public hearing) but some revisions will be made for elimination of the police offices/storage
d.      Reminder that construction costs will continue to rise at about 10% a year
The meeting adjourned at 6:59 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Judith Lee Shelnutt Brotman
