Selectboard Minutes 2003/08/20
Town of Lyme
Board of Selectmen
Minutes 20 August 2003
1.      The Lyme Board of Selectmen convened its regular meeting at 9:00 AM.  Allan Newton, Dick Jones and Carole Bont (Administrative Assistant) attended the entire meeting.  Pauline Field (Police Chief), Paul Roberts (police officer), Patty Jenks (Town Clerk) and Dina Cutting (Selectmen’s Bookkeeper/Secretary) attended parts of the meeting.
2.      The minutes of both the public and non-public sessions of 13 August were approved as submitted.
3.      The following administrative matters were discussed and/or actions taken:
a.      The estimate of $3,390 for tree work on the Common was reviewed.  It was felt that funds were not available in this year’s parks budget to do the work, and that it should be an item for the 2004 budget.
b.      At the executor’s request an extension was granted to pay the taxes and waive the interest and fees on Lon J. Pike’s estate until 30 December 2002.  (The executor had requested an extension through 1 October, but must sell the property to pay the estate bills.)
c.      Sherlie Dayton’s intent to cut on map 410 lot 80 was approved.
d.      John North was appointed to the Planning Board through March 2004 and Freda Swan as Lyme’s Commissioner on the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission through 2007.
e.      The Hewitt subdivision was discussed with particular attention to the proposed conservation easement to be granted to the Town and the sight distances at the corner of Baker and Bailey Hill roads.  The Board felt that acceptance of this easement was clearly in the public interest and will waive Conservation Commission review so that it may be completed before any of the lots are sold.
f.      Dina came in to discuss how to handle Bill’s pay while he is out for surgery.
4.      Pauline and Paul came in for a final interview before his hiring as a full-time police officer.  Following the interview, he was offered the position, accepted it, and Patty came in to swear him in as a Lyme police officer.
5.      The regular meeting adjourned at 10:10 AM and was followed by a canoe tour of Post Pond, Clay Brook and Trout Brook to look at the beaver dams.
