Lyme Recreation Commission
Present: Doug Vogt, Richard Jones, Tor Toreston, Kerry Beck, Steve Small
· Unanimous vote to accept April meeting minutes
· Steve reviewed May 2004 recreation report; all spring sports (Baseball, Little League, Lacrosse and Rock Climbing) are running smoothly and numbers in spring sports seem to have increased from previous years
· Also in Steve’s report was an update on Chase Beach lifeguard status; Maggie West will be training new lifeguards at Chase Beach; senior guards will assist in training to refresh their skills; lifeguards at this time are: Jillian S. (Head Guard), Chris W. (Senior Guard), Tori C., (Senior Guard), Scott S., Kim K., ; a recommendation was made that either the Head Guard or one of the Senior Guards be on duty during all assigned shifts;
· Hourly rates of lifeguards was discussed; it was determined more information was needed regarding current industry rates for guards; Steve was asked to research hourly rates for guards and instructors at other town beaches, Steve will email this info to the commission by Wednesday 5/26
· Chase Beach clean up day June 12 at 10am; Opening day June 13; hours of lifeguards on duty 9am-5pm seven days a week
· Play Soccer registrations have not yet arrived, they should be here next week; registrations will be passed out through the schools
· A brief discussion suggested that more clarity should be given to the Commission and Director roles
· A question was raised if commission needed to continue to meet monthly or move to an every other month schedule
· It was requested to plan on an update on proposed revisions to Lyme Recreation Handbook at next meeting
· Richard will circulate, via email, the most recent copy of Commission By-Laws prior to next meeting
· Meeting adjourned at 8pm
