LYME RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
4/26/2004

Present: Cathy Cramer, Richard Jones, Doug Vogt, Tom Schlenker, Kerry Beck


·       Appointed slate of officers: Cathy was agreeable to continue as Chair of Commission, Kerry was agreeable to fill open Secretary slot; unanimous decision
·       Reviewed April 2004 Recreation Director report submitted by Steve Small.  Report identified good number of participants in spring sports programs: baseball, lacrosse and climbing wall.  Commissioners are in place for each sport: Gary Webb (baseball), Julie McCutcheon (lacrosse) and Margaret Caffry (climbing wall).  All of these spring sports sign ups are complete and will be under way by end of this week.
·       A question of liability for coaches was raised; discussed fact that all Town Recreation Commission sanctioned sports are covered by town liability, which would include coaches for these sports
·       Payment for referees was discussed.  Confirmed and voted on fact that all referees shall not be paid for games refereed during basketball tournaments.  Vote passed unanimously.  Also discussed what referees should be paid for regular season basketball games.  Discussed need for consistency of payment to all referees for regular season games. Identified need for more systematic way to document who refereed what games and more accurate system to disperse payment for these games.  Recreation Commission should set fees for referring basketball games.
·       Chase Beach: Maggie West is organizing lifeguards, at this time list of lifeguards seems to be complete with six guards.  Discussion of hours of beach; no recommendation as of yet.  Clean up day tentatively set for 6/12/04 and opening day tentatively set for 6/13/04.
·       Report of electronic vote for Tai Chi was unanimous to approve this as commission sanctioned program
·       Approved minutes from 3/13/04 Recreation Commission meeting
·       Proposed Town of Lyme web home page will include Recreation Commission page as well as Recreation Programs page
·       Commission regretfully accepted resignation of Tom Schlenker
·       Commission approved summer basketball league to use basketball courts at Chase Beach
