PRESENT: Catherine Cramer (Chair), Pete Bleyler, Tor Tosteson, Frank Cutting, Kerry Beck

I)      Pete started meeting with brief explanation of issues leading to Special Meeting for review of Town of Lyme Conduct Policy Agreement

II)     Discussion regarding proposed Town of Lyme Enrollment, Indemnity and Conduct Policy Agreement and proposed Conduct Policy for Spectators, Players, Coaches and Officials at Sporting Events ensued, PROs/CONs of these policies were identified.    

III)    Motion was made and seconded to replace Lyme’s use of current Upper
Valley Recreation Association Zero Tolerance Policy with Town of Lyme Conduct Policy for Spectators, Players, Coaches and Officials at all sporting events.  Four members in favor, one abstained.  [Attached]  Cathy will write a note to the UVRA explaining the basis for this decision

IV)     Discussed proposed Enrollment, Conduct Policy and Indemnity Agreement including the need for and members’ input on including parental signatures on this policy.  Motion made to adopt proposed Enrollment, Conduct Policy and Indemnity Agreement  [attached]; motion was seconded and unanimously approved.  

V)      All present agreed Conduct Policy for Spectators, Players, Coaches and
Officials will be displayed at all Lyme Recreation sporting event venues.  The new form will be used (with sport-specific wording as necessary) for all future sign-ups.

Conduct Policy For Spectators, Players, Coaches, and Officials at Sporting Events


The intent of the Town of Lyme and the Recreation Commission in sponsoring this sporting event is to:

        encourage fun for everyone;
        help players learn teamwork and good sportsmanship;  and
        offer a positive experience to everyone, regardless of which team wins or loses.

Please assist the players, coaches, officials, and spectators in fostering good sportsmanship and promoting positive experiences during the sporting event.

Conduct that is disruptive or interferes with the game, players, coaches, officials, or spectators is prohibited at sporting events.  Profanity, threats, vulgar gestures, insults, or similar conduct berating players, coaches, officials, or spectators, have no place at the event.  Such conduct is contrary to the Town of Lyme and Recreation Commission’s goals of providing a reasonably safe, orderly, and positive sporting event.  The sponsoring authorities will not tolerate disruptive or offensive conduct during the sporting event.

Any person who does not comply with these guidelines may be warned, or asked to leave the event by the coaches and/or officials, after consultation among the coaches and officials.  If the person refuses to leave, the sponsoring authorities may take one or more of the following steps:

        suspend the game;
        end the game;
ask security personnel or police officers to escort the person from the premises;
        ask the Recreation Commission to bar that person temporarily or permanently from
                attending Recreation Commission sporting events, after providing the individual
                with an opportunity to offer a response to the Commission, in accordance with
                the resolution adopted by the Town of Lyme Board of Selectmen on April 30,
                2003, authorizing such action.

If anyone cannot or will not comply with these guidelines, please do not attend the event.  By attending the sporting event, you agree to abide by these guidelines.

For those wishing to buy a new shirt the cost will be $8.00. Note: for 5th graders and above there is a design change.  The shirts for grades 1-4 are the lime green with the little soccer ball in front and a number on the back, for the 5-8th graders it is the dark green shirt with a large soccer ball on the front and a number on the back.   I would like to standardize the team uniform to be the Lyme soccer shirt and black shorts.  Don’t forget that shin guards are the parent’s responsibility and are required.

Conduct Policy for Spectators, Players, Coaches, and Officials At Lyme Recreation Commission Events

In consideration of the offer of the Lyme Soccer Program, sponsored by the Town of Lyme Recreation Commission, to provide supervised soccer for children in Lyme, we the parent(s) or Guardian(s) of the above named child, do hereby give my/our consent to and my/our approval of his/her participation therein, to indemnify and hold harmless the named Organization, its members, supervisors, instructors, agents and representatives, (whether paid or unpaid), jointly and severally from all liability whatsoever for any injury and/or injuries sustained by said child, whether during instruction, or while otherwise engaged in such activities under the direction and supervision of said Organization.
