This was a public meeting to discuss the results of the community attitude survey.  The meeting began at 7:00 pm at the Lyme School.  Interactive displays were set up to engage the attendees and obtain their views on “sense of community,” “rural character,” events impacting Lyme over the years, and favorite views in town.  Planning Board members and staff stationed themselves by the exhibits to encourage participation and help with the objectives of the exercise.

At 7:30 pm, Jack Elliott called the meeting to order to make a Power Point presentation of the survey results.  This was followed by a discussion period.  Comments and questions included possible expansion of Lyme Common District; consideration of bus and commuter services; pedestrian traffic and safety in the common area; making the village more densely developed; no more land in the village area for development due to water and sewer needs; redevelopment of existing buildings in village area; parking issues; meeting with elderly population to better understand their needs; clearly define Lyme Common and Lyme Center historic districts and provide tax benefits to maintain buildings’ character; promote and create a “culture of working together;” and impact of growth on schools.

Jack Elliott explained the Board would be holding future meetings including neighborhood meetings to continue to solicit public input into the master plan update process.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
