TOWN OF LYME
Town Offices Building Committee
February 22, 2006
MINUTES

Attending: Pete Bleyler, Patty Jenks, Town Clerk, Carole A. Bont, Administrative Assistant, Don Metz, Tony Pippin, and Michael Woodard

Guest: Geoff Thornton

Pete called the meeting to order at 11:32 am.~

1.      A message was shared from Freda concerning the property on Dartmouth College Highway that is currently being considered as a site option for new offices.~ It seems that there are now two new issues of concern with this site, including objection by a previous owner of the property (who indicated he had gifted the property to the current owner with restrictions) and the findings that the Audubon Society holds first right of refusal for this property.~ Our contact for this negotiation continues to research these issues and will get back to Carole ASAP.

2.      Geoff Thornton had created more defined and detailed drawings of a suggested office space, based on input received from staff and committee members.~ A general discussion followed about logistics, configurations and parking issues. Geoff will join us again next week with more revisions.

3.      Michael pointed out that despite the general feeling that the newest option to consider located in Lyme Village probably would not work out, we should not rule out this option. We should continue to communicate with the current owners and continue fulfilling our charge as a committee, which is to pursue all options as we see them.~ Based on conversations a few committee members have had with the current owners of this property, it’s considered possible that the parties might be amenable to a lease/purchase arrangement once it’s determined that the property won’t be used for anything else.~ As this discussion was held, Geoff was doing calculations and noted that despite the varied types of construction necessary to complete either of the most viable options (new building vs. renovation/retrofit); the dollar amount to complete either would likely be very close.

4.      Carole and Patty will get the letter to the community to the printer and aim for a distribution by the end of the week.

The meeting adjourned at 1:00 pm.~ Next scheduled meeting is Monday February 27th at 11:30.

Respectfully submitted,
Patty Jenks
