Selectmen's Minutes 02/22/2017
Minutes of Meeting – February 22, 2017; meeting called to order at 7:00pm.  Present:  Channing Gibson; Dave Roche; Ed Lane; Ken Fowler; Warren Archey.
 
MOTION by EL, seconded by DR to accept the Minutes of February 8.  4/0 vote with WA abstaining.

Citizen’s Open Forum:  Roberta Russell stated that she is concerned with the results of a recent survey that states 64% of students are smoking marijuana.  She feels that they have nowhere to go after school in Lenox, and asked if it would be possible to collaborate with the various facilities located in the surrounding communities.  The TM stated that he would bring her concerns to the Superintendent of Schools for the School Committee to address.

Kim Noltemy, Chief Operating and Communications Officer for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, came before the Board to announce a large construction project.  It will consist of a four-building, $30M educational complex to support the performance and rehearsal activities of the Tanglewood Music Center and to serve as the home of the new Tanglewood Learning Institute.  It is anticipated to open in the summer of 2019, with construction beginning in August/September of 2017.  No permitting will be required from Lenox as the entire building project will be located in Stockbridge.

With regard to The Wit Gallery sculpture exhibition, CG stated that he believes that as part of the 250th celebration, there will be a number of straw people located throughout town.  Those two groups should get together to discuss their respective plans.

STA Applications:  The Town has received three Tax Assessment Applications; Marriott, Lenox Manor and Morrison.  Land Use Director Gwen Miller will score them, and bring the analysis before the Board at their March 8 meeting.

Consent Agenda:  MOTION by EL, seconded by CG to approve the consent agenda as follows: acceptance of monetary donation to the police department; participation in the FY18 HHW Collection Program; authorization to hold Wild Thing Trail Races in Kennedy Park on 6/25 from 9am-10:30am.  5/0 vote.  KF placed a Hold on the one-day license request from the Chamber of Commerce. He explained to everyone that this is for a fundraiser for Andrew Devries whose studio caught on fire.  MOTION by EL, seconded by DR to approve a one-day W&M license to the Lenox Chamber of Commerce for Friday, 3/3 from 7-9pm at Ventfort Hall.  5/0 vote.

BOS Liaison Reports:  CG brought up the housing survey and reminded everyone to attend the meeting on 2/27 at 6pm in the Welles Gallery to discuss housing in Lenox.  DR started that the 250th film was a wonderful success.  He also mentioned that the Town is continuing to work with the Library to seek efficiencies.  EL stated that the new DPW Superintendent will begin on 2/27, and that the Community Center heating system bids were opened and came in at a good price.  KF reminded everyone that nomination papers are now available for the election in May.
