Minutes of Meeting – August 1, 2013; meeting called to order at 4:00pm. Present: Ken Fowler; Ed Lane; Channing Gibson; Dave Roche; John McNinch.
The Board met with Don Jutton from Municipal Resources, Inc., the firm hired to assist the Town with the hiring of a new town manager. He explained that there will be the TM Search Committee and a professional panel interviewing the top six candidates on Friday. From this group, the names of the three finalists will be given to the Board for interviews on Saturday. The Board then reviewed the process, and discussed how the deliberations must be done in open session. Mr. Jutton explained that the Board needs to review the strengths, weaknesses and attributes of each candidate, and he is concerned about having to do this in open session. He has some concern that this may be a problem for the candidates in that if an agreement cannot be reached with the first choice, you may have to then move onto the second
choice. DR reassured him that the board will emphasize the positive, and not bring up the negatives of the various candidates. CG stated that he doesn’t see an issue with taking a chance on not getting the first choice. The Board members stressed that it is very important that this person be a good fit for the Town. JM suggested that the Board interview the three finalists on Saturday, briefly discuss them and then go home to mull things over until next week.
