Minutes of Meeting – July 30, 2012; meeting called to order at 1:00pm. Present: John McNinch; Ken Fowler; Ed Lane; Channing Gibson; Dave Roche.
Long Range Capital Planning: The Selectmen continued their review of long range capital needs with a focus on the School Department. School Committee Chairman Don Fitzgerald and School Superintendent Ed Costa reviewed the 5-year capital plan the committee had approved. While the plan contained many “wish list” items and showed some yearly totals exceeding $400,000, they felt that the school would manage with an annual capital allocation of $80-90,000. The exception to this is the upcoming need for new roofs at both schools and the need to replace outdated and inefficient HVAC controls. These projects will cost over $2 million. Ed Costa is working to secure partial state funding for these projects.
Before adjourning, it was agreed that the Selectmen and School Committee would hold a joint meeting soon to discuss the next steps needed to implement various recommendations contained in the Shared Services Study.
